ATLANTA (May 1, 2017) – The Atlanta area tops pest control leader Orkin’s list of Top 50 Mosquito Cities for the fourth year in a row. Atlanta is followed on the list by Washington, DC and Chicago. Twenty-one metro areas in the Southeast are included in the ranking, which is the most of any region in the United States.

We are not even the worst in the state of Texas

Orkin’s Top 50 Mosquito Cities list ranks metro areas by the number of mosquito customers served from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017. The list includes both residential and commercial treatments.
  1. Atlanta
  2. Washington, D.C. (+1)
  3. Chicago (-1)
  4. New York (+1)
  5. Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (+8)
  6. Dallas-Ft. Worth, Texas
  7. Houston (+5)
  8. Detroit (-4)
  9. Charlotte, N.C. (-1)
  10. Nashville, Tenn. (-3)

Ah, statistics! Gotta love them, right? I pay absolutely no, nana, zilch, zero attention to statistics (or polls either). Both are usually developed by people with ulterior motives.

As to where the most mosquitoes hang out (if you will ) would depend on the area and climate of course, but you have to agree Mother Nature is not all that predictable, so it's hard to put anything like this down as fact when the nature of the game can change on a whim.

How do they gauge it anyway? Count the little buggers? Keep a running tally of mosquito bites?

I've never heard anyone say Houston was the worst city for mosquitoes, myself, but I can very well imagine someone saying that if it's a wet, humid spring and those suckers are eating you alive.

Atlanta could have an insane bad rainy, over the top humidity one year and be slapped smack dab with a drought the next, so it's all pretty much immaterial.

I say it looks more like some free advertising for the Atlanta based Orkin company. Imagine that!

Wonder who is going to produce some sure fired statistics on who has the most fire ants next? lol I think I'll go ahead and do it now. My Daddy can whip your Daddy and I have more fire ants than you do! Na'nana'na'na'! See how easy it is?

I lived in Houston as well as Tampa, Fl and Jensen Beach, FL. Currently in Tampa. Florida is worse for mosquitoes than Texas, at least in my personal experience. Hands down.

Obvious joke about Washington DC being filled with blood-sucking disease vectors.

Yes, and it is appropriate.

A co-worker showed me a picture once. He had gone bow-hunting somewhere around Clute and he had a picture of his gloved hand holding the bow. Or he told me it was a bow. It was completely (and I mean COMPLETELY) covered in mosquitoes and you could not tell what color the bow was. His hand was not covered due to it being coated in repellent, apparently, but it looked like something out of a horror movie. I did not see a full-body picture, but he apparently knew to cover himself entirely, including mosquito netting hanging down from his hat and tucked into his shirt/jacket.
