We are in Midland Tx looking to get a temp rental or purchase something cheap we have a 5 year contract here then will be going back to NY for permanent home. Someone sais there was a small piece of land for sale cheap. So I looked up the area and all I see is the old Rattlesnake abandoned base and words like ghost town and very few people or amenities. Also given they abandoned the base and they used to melt down WWII planes I am also wondering if contamination would be an issue too. Not like Midland is eco friendly but given nothing there I am sure the concern for the residents may not be at the top of the list. Any help to figure out what this area is like would be appreciated. Thanks again.

I think you may have posted in the wrong forum. Midland is a long way from Dallas.

Pyote is just a really small town in the middle of nowhere.

You might consider visiting Pyote personally before spending too much time looking for accommodations. If, after your visit, you decide you like the place, you could pursue this idea further.

If you like living in a tiny town more akin to an oilfield camp than a city, one which is in the middle of the Permian Basin oilfield (the pumpjacks are taller than the native trees there), then Pyote may be for you.

The county seat of Ward County, in which Pyote is located, is Monahans. In Monahans, if you want to buy something other than what the local convenience stores sell (including groceries), you have to travel 40 miles east to Odessa.

Pyote makes Monahans look like an idyllic paradise by comparison.
