I'm not lesbian but I am lgbt and have many friends and acquaintances who are lesbia-born born and raised here and transplants. I've had no trouble in DFW and while most other people may not be thrilled, those who are bothered at least stay quiet about it and have tended to accept me. Not to say there are no problems-I believe a lgbt bar in Dallas or Fort Worth was attacked or vandalized a few years ago.

That said, I have on occasion Heard the complaint that there isn't much of a "lesbian community," especially from some more mature individuals, with comparisons made to Austin, Chicago, LA, or the Bay Area.

Both Houston and Dallas have the largest amount of LGBT-identified people in the state. Dallas particularly has a very vibrant gay scene, but mostly for males from what I hear. Houston I've heard is slightly better for lesbians in terms of bars, clubs, etc. Dallas (city) is a pretty opened place and the city has kept up to speed on anti-discrimination ordinances.

Ever heard of Annalise Parker? Lesbian mayor of Houston. Houston and Dallas, are very LGBT-friendly.

Down here in San Antonio we have a vibrant gay culture with the exception of a bar scene. The bar scene is not terrible but not up to Dallas or Houston standards.

My partner lives in HOU and I live in ATL. I go back/fourth a lot until I move out that way. BUT Houston gives lots of little looks and stares, but nothing more than that. My partner says due to HOU high caliber of people (which I agree), more people put their career forefront of their life, so they elect to hide their orientation more, where as in Atlanta, where I live, the metro is used to it, so people don't even care to hide anything.... So If they see two attractive men not showing PDA but obviously in a relationship, they will look with curiosity, etc.... That's one of the things that def makes TX more conservative than other states. I hear for lesbian life Pacific NW is where u wanna be...

I wouldnt want to be openly gay outside the major cities and their suburbs in Texas. Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Fort Worth, etc., youll be fine. Dallas and Austin pay the most attention to being gay friendly and they are the only two cities in Texas that get a 100 score from the HRC. The others are fine though.
