What a nice surprise! Google is celebrating the anniversary of Selena's first Album release. Heck, I'll use any excuse to bring up (& celebrate) Selena, listen to her music and watch her videos.

So how many different ways does this rock & roll loving white dude in his late 50s.....REALLY like Selena??

(NOTE: I went with a couple of relatives (who were fans) and saw her in concert once....she & her band were freaking fabulous & she was amazingly beautiful.)

But to answer the Question....there are LOTS of ways I REALLY like Selena & will remember Selena.

- Her music. (Bidi, Bidi, Bom, Bom !!)
- Her dancing.
- Her Voice and her Star Power.
- My introduction into the wonderfulness that is Cumbia music.
- Her beauty (truly a natural beauty).
- Her shape.......(damn....those curves. I mean, really......damn !!)
- & she was taken from us heartbreakingly too.damn.early. She was only 24.

So how does everyone else remember Selena? A True Texas Legend liked by virtually everyone (& loved by most).

& thanks Google !!

I saw this. My kids think I'm nuts but I loved Selena and she was taken too soon. There's just something about her that draws you in, her beauty, her talent, how open she was, always smiling. She just looks like she would have been a lot of fun to know.

I feel the worst for her husband Chris, he tried to go on with his life and eventually got married, but divorced and he wrote a book about her then. I'm sure it was a bone of contention in their marriage. What woman can stand up to the memory of Selenas?

Just a few months ago Chris posted on Facebook that he was watching the movie for the first time with a bottle of wine, and he gave a blow-by-blow during the movie of what was real and when so-and-so happened.

Here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/ChrisPerezM...57460190953109

And I'm a white 50 year old myself.

Truly a tremendous loss for the state of Texas. She was a legend. If she were alive today she would have had far more star power than Jennifer Lopez.

Here's the google doodle for those who are interested

The smile was definitely a big part of it. You could tell she absolutely LOVED singing and performing.

& you're right, she would have been fun to know. In her 40s, she would have been everyone's favorite aunt, & in her 60s, she would have been everyone's favorite Nana.

Philo, thanks for posting the google doodle.

The past 2 weeks I've you toobed a bunch of Tom Petty & Selena videos. Not a bad way to spend 3-4 minutes (at a time).

Did anyone see Demi Lovato dressed as Selena? Everyone was raving over her, but it's a no from me. Selena was a class act all the way, she would have never let her breasts show that way.

At the height of her popularity (right at her passing) I was 15, I didn't necessarily appreciate her or her music. With age, my musical tastes have expanded significantly, at 36 today I can say that she made some beautiful music.
