LOL, The Austin Fairmount just managed to open 2 days ago. No way is Hotel ZaZa opening in 2018! (probably the most delayed hotel project in all of Texas!)

aloft hotels are ikea furniture in a building built with the same quality as an ikea box

no one on earth would consider them anything other than a 3 star property with less noise abatement, less amenities, higher prices and clients that like to get chumped and or were desperate to find a room anywhere and had to settle for an aloft

they are terrible hotels and the price to quality/service/amenities is about the worst in the business

Not much love for Hilton brand on that list, Hilton Americas in Houston is one of my favorite places to stay in the city. Great pool too. Hilton Austin is also strong. I'd definitely take either one over any Aloft hotel.

And what about the Intercontinental Hotel coming to the Medical Center in Houston?

In SA, I've stayed at 3 of those: Hotel Valencia, The Emily Morgan, and the La Cantera Resort. All are nice in one way or another. However, the particular circumstance of my stay at the Emily Morgan really impressed me. It was when it had just opened and I (by chance) was assigned one of the large suites in the top 2 floors, with a view of the Alamo. Very cool.

The only other "historic" building I have stayed in there was in the St. Anthony, also luckily in a large suite.

I afraid to expect my luck to hold out any more. I have yet to stay in the Gunther or the Menger, but I don't wanna get my hopes up too high because of my luck in the other hotels.

As far as value and location, I think the Marriott Townplace Suites is really good, especially if you can get one of the corner suites on the top floor or two. The staff there is really nice, too.

In Austin, the Hotel Van Zandt seems pretty nice, although I've just hung out at the bar and poolside there so far.

Last thought: I was a bit disappointed in the Dallas Omni Hotel ... nice, but too big and a lot of freeway noise on one side. I had a couple of meals at the Joule ... very nice and would like to stay there next time.
