I purchased a home some six months back through a VA Loan. It is a good home in a nice area, but the location is slightly more remote than I anticipated. The gas $/commute issues are not ideal. What is the board's recommendation for selling or renting it out?

How the hell some total strangers on some random Forum should know what you should do with your house? We don't even know where you're in TX.

Sorry to ruin your good vibrations. It's just a question about general real estate options.

When I sold my previous house, I could tell there was money to be made renting it out, but I didn’t want to take on the effort and risk involved. Just wanted the money in hand to buy a new place.

FSBO or through a realtor? I'm a novice when it comes to property mgmt and so I'd prefer to use a professional; I'm worried that the costs included would be too much though.

The rental estimate is around 1300-1500, barely enough to cover the mortgage. I feel I'd be taking a risk by renting.

Wait it out 6 more months and then sell.

Insurance, property tax, management fees, and maintenance, and maybe even vacancies can cause negative cash flow on a rental.
