Read most of the posts about Beaumont on City Data throughout the last six months while planning the move (job). Ended up living in West Beaumont as recommended. Grew up in a large city (population >3 million) and Beaumont has everything I need so far. Kept reading about the racism in Beaumont, especially smaller surrounding towns- Is the racism something I should actually be worried about or is it exaggerated? It's sometimes weird being Asian because we are usually the forgotten bastard child when racism is discussed. Black vs white vs hispanic vs. everyone else.

Regards to the often mentioned crime- does not appear too bad on the West side of town. Hope it stays that way and I am not just walking around with a false sense of security.

Thanks for your opinions.

Evidently there used to be serious problems with racism against blacks in that part of the state. It's not like it used to be though. As an Asian, I suspect you'll be fine.

Asians in the Golden Triangle are predominantly Vietnamese Americans and usually stereotyped as hard working / industrious. Now socially on the other hand, not sure how good that area will be for you. I think it all depends on how you act first and foremost. Yes there is still a lot of racism there but there are also a LOT of living, breathing stereotypes there who contribute to that place being mostly a dump. On the other hand (IMO) some of the most likable people in the entire USA live there too. Good luck.

There is a strong and vibrant Filipino community in Beaumont although smallish.
