Reality is that urban people vote democrat (people that want better public services from the government)
and rural people vote republican (people that own lots of land and don't want to pay taxes on it)

Because social justice and multiculturalism are always for someone else. The people who advocate for it don't want to experience it themselves, they just want it for everyone else.

Same principle as to why people who claim to love diversity and the public education send their kids to lily-white private schools.

As bad as Austin is, San Francisco is far worse. There is no middle class there anymore. There are the ultra rich and then the people who live and go to the bathroom in the streets. But if you go up to nearly any voter there you can be sure you'd hear platitudes about social justice.

I think todays results showed that this is true. Tarrant County is the last major county to not go blue. This election showed it is about to join Harris, Dallas, Bexar, and Travis counties becoming blue. In fact, Tarrant in 2018 is probably like Harris in 2004.

Election night in Texas was a major disappointment for conservative Texans. Ted Cruz's margin of victory was unacceptable, and I hope that this is his final term in office. I think that is the likely outcome. Greg Abbott's margin of victory was smaller than his 2014 margin. Some of this has to do with newcomers to the urban areas of Texas.

El Paso, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin have been blue areas for 10+ years depending on the case. Beto won Tarrant County (Fort Worth).

Because of the strength of Beto, Colin Allred won District 32 in Metro Dallas, an area including the Park Cities (the wealthiest area of Dallas County), and Preston Hollow (the wealthiest neighborhood in the city of Dallas). It is amazing that the Park Cities and Preston Hollow now have a person who can be perceived as a wealth re-distributing socialist representing them in the U.S. House.

Beto won Dallas County 66-33 over Cruz, compared to Hillary beating Trump 61-35 in the county.

Obama got his a** handed to him in two midterms and still smoked Romney. Midterms are protest elections. It is unwise to apply what happens in a midterm to future presidential elections.

I think Cruz is his own issue. Hes creepy looking and unlikable. Beto was likable but took leftist policy positions far outside the Texas mainstream. He might have won if he hadn't gone democratic socialist. Cruz has a lot of work to do if he wants to stay in office.

It has been obvious for years Americans don't trust one party controlling everything. I personally prefer divided goverment as the checks on gubbermint are far more robust when there is divided government.

This is what I saw. It is the New York Times after all. Feel free to share something different. I'm really curious how Tarrant played out.

Huh... so that's the final tally?

I saw 0.2% for Cruz, but then again, that was around 11pm...
