So much for the theory about Californian transplants "trying to turn Texas into a socialist hell-hole." I think we can also kill the theory about Texas Democrats "being more conservative" compared to those elsewhere.

Would be interesting to see this broken down by race. I'm guessing it is the "Hispanics" that tip the edge to Beto. So much for Republicans trying to appeal to them. They will never vote Republican at a rate higher than 30-40% it seems.

Plausible. Gotta figure at least hundreds of thousands voted for Beto because they saw a Hispanic nickname on a sign but didnt bother to do anymore candidate research than that. I think the plan was to make the uninformed think he was at least part Hispanic, rather than a lily-white Irishman.

I tend to agree with you about the Republicans thinking they can win the Hispanic vote. Hispanic culture has traits that align them a lot more closely with the Democrats than Republicans. This is a fairy tale the neocons fall for every election.

Cruz is also Hispanic name. If someone is going to vote based on name alone, wouldn't the influence of a Hispanic name be equal for both candidates?

Also, there are probably more people in Texas who would vote against a Hispanic name if they knew nothing else about the candidate. Where's the advantage for Beto?

Why else would he fail to include his last name on his yard signs?

I question that data. Look at Collin County. Its ground zero for migration from California into Texas. It has changed dramatically politically in the last several years and is pretty close to being purple as it is. It was dark red 10-15 years ago.

Of course most migrants to Texas are from the South, not the West so maybe its right.

I would suspect there are more migrants from AR, OK, LA, and other southern states in Texas than Ex-Californians.

any poll from CNN is suspect and i would take it for what it is worth - nothing

common sense would tell you that the young left leaning and progressives voted for the skate boarding tool - and the old guard conservatives be it republican or democrat voted for cruz -

beto only appeal was to the young or those who wanted more crap for free like health care, college education, housing allowances etc -

its easy to be a leftist - spend someone else money taken through taxes and fees - free loader would never vote their free loading lifestyle out - they would never vote to get rid or or even lower the free crap they get-

one look west is proof- its human nature once you give people free **** - they want it for ever it their right to have it

But voters saw the full name of both candidates on the ballot. If they're that uninvolved, isn't that when they would have made their decision?
