I legally changed my name in CA last year I never expected to move or thought It necessary to change my birth certificate. My ID and SS card have my new name on them but my birth certificate does not.

It is to my understanding, after speaking briefly to an attorney, that I need my birth certificate to prove my citizenship at the DPS, in addition to the other two documents. This will cause me problems because:

A) my name will reverse on my ID to what is on my birth certificate. This is OK though not ideal

B) My Social Security card will no longer match my ID or birth certificate. This will cause me problems because I am looking for work and employers typically ask for two forms of consistent identification. The Texas ID change will not overrule the California decree changing my name with Social Security

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this, but I assumed Texans here may know the system here well. I’e only been here for six months. I do not know for certain what I actually have to present to the DPS or if the birth certificate is needed. Note I do not have a passport.

Thank you

When you need to prove your ID, take your birth certificate and the legal name change document. No problem. (personal experience)

Meanwhile, wouldn't hurt for you to apply to California for a corrected birth certificate. Makes things easier in the long run.

^^^ This. Bring your legal documents of the name change with all other relevant documentation. You do not need to "update" or "change" the birth certificate in any way (a bit nonsensical).

All you need to secure employment is a current/valid photo ID and a Social Security Card. You do not need to show a birth certificate.

DPS = Department of Public Safety, for a driver's license, not for employment. And yes, you DO have to show birth certificate when first getting a Texas driver's license.

Then the individual has two forms of ID that are the same, for employment.
