Sorry My Caps Button Is Stuck

No you will be certain to get a speeding ticket especially if you are a African-American , because in my experience your car will want to take off and cruise above the speed limit on it's own. But when i was in my early and middle 20's well even maybe late 20's I could drive from Tulsa Oklahoma to the West or East Coast in 24 Hours and on top of that make love all night , now I don't want to do either one of the (2) two above mentioned activities.

The last time I made that drive to El Paso--because of the lack of facilities--I had to stop and relieve myself just off of the interstate. Watch our for the winds. To my chagrin, I discovered that they can change directions without any notice. When they swoop down in those hills, changing directions, they can cause a person relieving himself some serious problems. Had to drive the rest of the way with the air conditioner blowing on my clothing and the windows open so the warm, dry air could help remove some dampness. Is that too much information?

You mean you weren't even at a rest area???

One thing I did in my West Texas travels is to know ahead of time where the towns are, then plan ahead for the unexpected. Here's a trick for you: What I do is stop in a hotel when I need to.....you know. Really. I knew I needed to stop, so in Ozona, I did without having to do something drastic. Even though my experience was not unexpected, I knew where I could stop between San Antonio and Fort Stockton if I needed to, so the pre-planning paid off immensely.

It really depends on how you do it. If you drive, it maybe can be done. 800 miles in one day is doable, but I would not want to be in the car with you, not for the last half. If you go by horse, no way. If you walk, no way. An airplane would do it in 2 hours.
Texas is way too pretty to rush through. Take your time and enjoy the scenery.

Sorry, but you made me laugh, and then I felt bad for you. The stench of pee must of been horrible.

I've done Strafford to George West in about 14 hours. Tack on another 3.5 to 4 hours to the Rio Grande Valley and you've made tip to tip of the state on the northern to southern route. Personally, I feel it would have been very doable, if I had not started out a good 1100 miles away from the Panhandle before reaching Strafford.

The requirements are determination, a very strong pot of truck stop coffee, a loud radio, and at least 1 hour of sleep before begining the trek.

My driving avoids as much of interstate and metro areas as possible. I want to be able to observe where I am going, not the rear bumper of the car in front of me.

Back in 1990 when i moved to Jacksonville, Florida from El Paso i started late like around 9.00 A.M. so i made it to Gonzales which is east of San Antonio and slept there so i obviously didn't do squat getting far back then on that trip but in 1995 when i moved beck from Jacksonville i left Jax at 5.00 A.M. and made it to Katy just west Houston at around 9.00 P.M. that day as my back, long legs and knees were killing me for driving for so long as that was around 1,000 to 1,100 miles in 1 day. Got up the next morning and made it in to El Paso to my Grandparents home that early evening so you can do it but i lived on Coffee and Fast food to drive 1,800 miles in 2 days.

Now i fret driving from Albuquerue to El Paso (265 miles) ......lol......Don't think my legs could take that 1,800 drive from El Paso to Jacksonville in 2 days again as it would probably kill me .

well we did it! it was a few weeks ago though forgot to tell you guys. We did a little planning ahead to know where we should stop to use the restroom/eat. i left Beaumont at 5 am made it out to Katy a little after 7am then made it to a truck stop close to MM653? close to 9am. got the kids up had breakfast and played football with them out in this field we left about 10am. we then made it for lunch at this place in Junction and got gas at about 1.left at 2 and made a unexpected pit stop in Ozona around 4p.m. and also bought lunchables for dinner.then made a soccer break at Fort Stockton close to 6.p.m. and made it to Texas State Road 375 and I-10 right at 9:30. then we checked into a hotel near the 375/Patriot Freeway(US 54) interchange probably just right after 10:00 we walked into the hotel room and literally crashed on the beds. it was definetly a grueling trip the kids and i didnt wake up untill 1 p.m. the next day. then we made it into Tucson,Arizona around 5:30 p.m. stopped went out to dinner seen a movie and then went mini-golfing. checked into a hotel.then the next day made it to San Diego.

Thank you all for warning me of the long haul i had ahead of me!! if i can survive a grueling trip like that with twin 4yr old boys and a 7 yr old son. then anyone can make the long haul. i think the timings i posted for the trip are close to the times that i arrived at those places.

I did it 887?miles in 15 hours averaging 76mph (excluding stops) with stops the average speed was 60mph.

Thank you all for taking time out of your day and posting information that i definetly did use!!
