OK, maybe y'all can help me out here. I've tried to find this song by Marty Robbins for years (it might help if I remembered the name), but I think it will be easy enough to recognize the title. It starts off something like this...For sale diamond ring...the song is about how he doesn't need it anymore, she's left him...It became one of my favorite Marty Robbins songs (well, shoot, all of his were my favorite songs), but this song was really pretty. A bar we used to hang out at had a pretty good size dance floor in the back and they had a band every Friday and Saturday night. We were friends with the band and had known one of the guys for a long time. It was unreal how talented he was, he could hear something a couple of times and he had it down pat. The song I'm treferring to was on one of my 8 tracks. I let him listen to it a few times and he had it. They always knew to be sure and play it and The Rose when I was there. Maybe one of you will know the name of it and what cd it would be on. The 8 tracks have long been gone and I didn't think to write down the title of the tape or even the name of the song, never thought I'd forget it I guess.

Hmmmm...LoneStar? I DO remember a song back in the 60's by Gary Lewis and the PlayBoys which was titled "This Diamond Ring"

This Diamond Ring
Gary Lewis and the Playboys
Written by Al Kooper, Irwin Levine and Bob Brass

Peak chart position # 1 in 1965

Who wants to bu-u-uy this diamond ri-i-i-ing?
She took it off her finger, now it doesn't mean a thi-i-i-ng
This diamond ring doesn't shine for me anymore
And this diamond ring doesn't mean what it meant before
So if you've got someone whose love is tru-u-ue
Let it shine for yo-ou-ou

Now, Marty Robbins COULD have also did a country version of it, BUT, I think THIS one might be what you are thinking about. Titled "Hello Daily News"...

Hello, Daily News
Give me clsssified ads
Run an ad in your paper
Read it somethin' like this

For sale, diamond ring
Odds and ends, household things
Just give me a call
Say, I'm sellin' all
At a sacrifice

The wedding was called off
Said, she loved my best friend
And his things just remind
Me of the fool I've been

Hello, Daily News
What's the price of this ad
There's just one more thing
Add one wedding ring
At a sacrifice
Sacrifice

Thanks TR, Hello Daily News, that's the one. I like Gary Lewis and the Playboys and I know that song, got it on a record. The bulk of my music is pretty much divided among the oldies, CCR, Beach Boys, Jan & Dean....again the list goes on, C&W, and R&B, Sam & Dave, Percy Sledge, Aretha, on it goes. Well I guess that's not altogether true. I've got plenty Van Halen, Queen, Meatloaf, etc. too. It's all good music.

I always liked this particular song (Hello Daily News) by Marty Robbins. Now I just need to find the cd, or maybe I can download it. Thanks a bunch!

I agree about the country music today being played...it is mostly crap. Some of y'all might know this and some of you might not...but you (TEXAS) truly have a gem living in Austin who sings and plays traditional country music and writes all his own stuff. I'm talking about Dale Watson and the Lonestars...what a great bunch of musicians. If you get a chance, go check him out in Austin. I know he also plays at the Hangin' Tree Saloon down in San Antonio. Also does some dates at Gruene Hall and Pearl's dance hall up in Fort Worth. He plays all over TX but the bulk is pretty much in Austin.
