Hello
A friend of mine lost TWO part time jobs recently:
1. A 25 hour W-2 job
2. A 1099 part time job

She is trying to apply for unemployment online and it just allows her to enter one job. The second part time job loss may increase her eligibility since it adds work hours to her week total. We don't know what to do. The question would be how to file when you lost two part time jobs...

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
MC

I suggest contacting the Texas Workforce Commission. Looking at their website, they state they are experiencing high volumes of callers, but they are seeing a lower number of calls between 10 PM and 8 AM. I suggest calling them during those hours.

Take this with a grain of salt, as I am not a labor law attorney, but I do receive a W2 for some of my income, and a 1099 for the bulk of my earnings. It's my understanding that your friend can file for unemployment only for the W2 job she holds. A person receiving a 1099 is typically someone designated as a non-employee individual, self employed, or an independent contractor. None of those designations can file for unemployment as far as I know.

HOWEVER... Things have changed with this huge stimulus package the government just passed, so it's possible she will be able to claim something.

I'm a 1099 worker. Apply online then TRY to give them a call. I've been calling all week and the phone lines are jammed.

Thanks..The problem is that she can enter her 25 hour part time W2 info but there is no addition section to add the second 1099 job....Thank you everyone . We will keep calling.

That is not correct information under the CARES act. 1099, self employed, gig workers, W-2 are all eligible.

For the OP, she files now. She’ll have to provide proof of income for the 1099 job later after she receives the monetary determination.
