Showing El Paso some love since it doesn't get much here on the Texas Forum.

Driving through El Chuco Town, it's nice to see a crane in the sky recently. This new office tower, WestStar Tower at Hunt Plaza, will be El Paso's newest addition to the skyline which is set for completion soon.

The south side of Dallas will never grow at the same pace nor nearly as expansive as the northside, simply because those communities so far away from the corporate job hubs and also because they have relatively poorer schools.

That said, someone used a term I thought was pretty accurate, I think it was called "replacement sprawl." The communities both east and south of Dallas is where developers will look to build "cheap" starter homes that are no longer profitable north of the city because of the high land costs. Proposals such as the 10K Emory Lakes community in Waxahachie, the 1,500 home community under construction in Royse City and the pair of 4,500 home communities in Ferris and Midlothian are examples of this. Areas south of Dallas are also where companies will look to build distribution centers creating lower-paying blue collar jobs since the wealthier communities north of the city don't really want the semi-truck traffic and pollution that comes with them. The I-35E expansion underway right now between Dallas and Hillsboro will also induce demand for development of that side even further, once complete.

Eventually, as these communitoes and industrial parks are built out, retailers and restaurants will follow behind. We already see this in Rockwall, but eventually (I'd say a good 10 years out), this will be repeated in Midlorhian, Ferris, Waxahachie, Forney, Terrell, etc.

Admittedly, I've been there a bunch of times but don't have much experience with the city...mostly gassing up, driving through or just staying the night at a road side hotel as I am between San Diego and San Antonio alot. I've never stepped foot in Juarez either despite spending a bunch of time in different border towns from Matamoros to Tijuana.

It is nice to see it's downtown making progress though. It's definitely part of "the big 6", a step above less important cities such as Lubbock, Corpus and Amarillo.

I highly recommend you go. It's very nice city and so scenic. UTEP has cool campus architecture by the way.

Take the drive up above and looking down on El Paso.

I agree.....I don't think people purposely sleep on El Paso.....Its just that you hardly hear about new developments and other stuff going on.

YES...I know it is very scenic and I've heard about the look-out hill that they have. And plus they have mountains near.

If El Paso ever built up like Austin it would be the most attractive city in Texas IMO.

Honestly in El Paso, the mountains are literally IN the city, not just near it. Something shared with relatively few other U.S. cities (Phoenix, Los Angeles). The Sun Bowl has one of the most striking settings of any stadium. And it's been several years since I've been there, but I understand that the downtown is undergoing serious revitalization, including the reopening of its most historic hotel (you've got to see the bar!). Plus downtown is right by the border, so you have the businesses catering to cross-border traffic giving it a totally unique atmosphere (not exactly glamorous, but interesting) among the Big 6.

Did a little research...... I think I'm kinda embarrassed for being so uninformed....But I think I'm developing a crush on the potential that El Paso obviously has.
