With Texas being one of the most moved to state here recently just what are the cores of the states largest six cities doing or preparing to do to accommodate the influx of growth???

In my opinion all six are handling it well with only a few hiccups...But vision and ambition is what creates world class cities......Hopefully in 15 or 20 years Texas will have 6.

In the meantime....The road to that status for all six is a constant work in progress.It will be so different in all of these cities in just a few short years,,,,And I can't wait to see it.


Post developments in the cores of each core so we can all learn the most current development phase in each.Also post future projects to help paint the vision for each city.....WE ARE ALL TEXAN...progress in ANY city benefits us all.....This Corona virus will not hold Texas back....we will Bounce back the quickest.

Dallas and Houston should already be as developed as Toronto or Sydney. Melbourne etc. Or even other Cities here in the US .
If anyone is impressed by any of these cities progress then you need a reality check. Look at emporis.

In case you forgot:

- Many of those cities you're talking about are already densely packed/developed.
- Many of those same cities are also older and when "White Flight" here in the States happened, it didn't effect them as much.
- Texas right now is what California was in the 40s and 50s... take that however you will. The state is just now really starting to see a major influx, so this is just the beginning.
- And most of all, who's talking about being "impressed" by anything? That wasn't even the point of this post.

I can agree with this. For example, zoning in Dallas is very hit or miss. That Sam's Club debacle a few years back is a prime example of how the core of Dallas is not regulated for high-density that you see in places like Toronto and Chicago. Another is the Trinity River Park situation.

BUT to answer the question! I think Austin is doing some cool things right now. In terms of progress, I rank it as:

1. Austin
2. Dallas
3. Houston
4. San Antonio/Ft. Worth
5. El Paso

Thanks, OP, for compiling some information about the future outlook for some Texas cities!

I live in Dallas, and it seemed like we were about 5 years away from some parts of the Downtown area becoming pretty lively and bustling. However, now that we are in the midst of a global pandemic, I do think that timeline might be extended to 8 years time instead. I don't live in the other cities, so I can't really comment on their local economies, but I'd imagine it would be pretty similar. Basically I see this as a pretty big snag for our local economy, but one that we can definitely recover from.

HAIF is one of the best ways to track development in Houston. I just drove through the core today. I noticed that a lot of parking lots have disappeared in downtown. The Texas Tower and The preston are popping up in the skyline now. 37 blocks of surface parking lots have.now been developed in the last 5 years.
Caydon Midtown (5 towers) has completed 2 towers and is readying the Kimpton Hotel >

Plus there are several world class cultural projects going on including the $400 million MFAH expansion and The $300 million Ismaili Center(first in the US) . The ION etc.

I dont know where to begin. You would have to drive around for hours too see it all for yourself but trust me I've never seen this big of a boom in Houston. I certainly have never seen this many tower cranes in action at one time.

"The Dallas SMART District"....There are many renderings of this project. It was the Ideal location for AMAZON if we would have landed them.

Not all losses though....That very loss opened up the flood gates of companies who never considered Dallas in the past..... To me that's the very moment Dallas had arrived.

The Dallas one is really just a concept rendering the design is to advertise its depth in capacity. Not the actual details....so the buildings look basic.


That AMAZON one was amazing. Im pretty what we get will be just as good or better.
