Hi,
the top meteorologists are predicting this will be a busy hurricane season for the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts.Do y'all think this is accurate???I sure hope not.Last thing we need is another Harvey hitting our coast or anywhere for that matter. So, what do y'all think Texas city-data subforum???Thanks in advance.

The latest models have Cristobal making landfall over Louisiana with Texas receiving less of an impact. That doesn’t mean that some of the outer bands couldn’t reach Beaumont/Arthur or even parts of Greater Houston. I was kind of hoping more of a Texas event. DFW has been fairly hot and dry. Some moisture could be a bit of a reprieve.

We have gotten a LOT of rain in Houston in the last two weeks. Last week it rained 4 of 7 days. I would rather this one not impact us but it wouldnt be the end of the world if it did.

What they are saying is that based on current weather patterns, the computer models are predicting a higher than normal chance of hurricanes this season.

It can be simultaneously true that we have a higher than normal chance of hurricanes and still not have any strike the coast. No one knows what August and September are actually going to bring. There is a lot of random chance involved.

But if I lived on the coast, I, for one, would be prepared. Not just this year but every year.

That’s true. Luckily there’s a trough to the north and a high pressure system to the east which will make steer it out of the region wherever Cristobal makes landfall. It would be bad obviously if it stalled out.

Cristobal is already graded down to Depression. I don't even expect much rain anymore.

Looks like MAYBE some rain in Dallas from Cristobal Monday (same with Tyler) but it doesn't look like a major event for anywhere in Texas. Tyler has a slightly higher chance of some rain, as does Beaumont. Houston and Dallas may not get any. Ironically, today anyway, Houston has less of a chance of rain than Dallas from this storm system.

I've had my fill of tropical systems since Rita. Something about being out of power for 3 weeks in 95 degrees, having to cut yourself out to the highway with chainsaws and tractors (5 miles but lots of help), and then worry about fuel and other staples makes me pay attention to Atlantic/Gulf systems. Then there was Ike (only 8 days without power). Ike wiped out the Bolivar Peninsula destroying probably 1000 beach homes.

Should we mention Harvey? I was stuck at the hospital where I work for 4 days without water, all roads in/out of Beaumont flooded, and our only supplies being flown in with military helicopters. 60 inches of rain in flat country in 3 days was pretty intense.

12 years and 3 major events makes you pay attention. Having said that they seem to say the same thing every year. I know they said it last year and it was very quiet in the Gulf... most storms tracked up the East Coast.
