Which of these 2 areas(Killeen/Temple or Midland/Odessa) is most like the Dallas/Fort Worth area as far as economy, development patterns, relationship between the cities, amenities? I just want to say that this is just based on your opinions/observations. I'm in no way saying that either of these places are anything like Dallas or Fort Worth, just thought it'd make an interesting conversation.

Midland is the only one I consider strongly white collar so that would be my guess.

Neither one. MidEssa is an oilfield town, and Temple/Killeen is a GI town. Neither one is even close to the population of the DFW area.

I picked Killeen/Temple because one is a lot bigger than the other, there are a number of small towns in-between and around Killeen and Temple that are growing together.

Neither option I’d assume. DFW is a mix of Austin and Houston Metros for the most part.

MidEssa has extensive links with Houston due to the oil industry. Lots of oil industry people rotate between the Permian and Houston.

Temple/Kileen has a lot in common with DFW being on the northern Texas side of the Triangle, but its military links link it more with San Antonio. The southern part of Bell County is an emerging exurb from Austin's northern suburbs.

I'd say Killeen Temple. Temple is less than a 2 hour drive to Red Oak, Texas, a suburb South of Dallas. The landscape around Temple and Killeen is more similar to the landscape around Dallas. Midland-Odessa is well isolated from other cities and it's located pretty much in a desert. I think the nearest city over 100,000 is Lubbock and it's over 100 miles away. I think if you live in Odessa-Midland you better love living there because there's not a whole lot of other options out that way.

I'll say Midland/Odessa. There is more of a pronounced rivalry between those two than there is between Killeen and Temple. Like Fort Worth, Odessa is in the "shadow" of the larger/more well-known Midland - but folks in Odessa take pride that they are not Midland. I know lots of people in Bell County and just don't get the same sort of dynamic at play there.
