Odd. I've never had trouble in rural Texas and I travel around the state pretty much weekly. I'm often getting passed like I'm standing still while I'm doing 80 on I-35's rural sections and can count the number of times I've seen a cop patrolling it on one hand. I-20 ? Forget it, you can pretty much go as fast as you want between DFW and Louisiana, I've never seen a cop patrol that road and have been frequently passed by drivers doing 90 +

I wouldnt blitz through a 55 zone or a small rural town, or say Temple or Waco, but the rural sections & 75 MPH + speed zones are about the closest thing America has to the autobahn compared to most other states I've been to.

In Austin, I dunno how its possible to speed given our traffic, if you managed to pull it off I think the cop is probably pulling you over to congratulate you

I wish more drivers understood this. Driving 80 on an open highway can be fine. Driving 80 when everyone around you is going 50, and traffic is mixed, lots of vehicles entering & exiting... just a recipe for disaster.

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but our driver education system is a joke.

This is why freeway feeder roads are so dangerous. Folks come off of (or are trying to get onto) the limited-access main lanes and are doing 50-60 mph while others are coming into and out of driveways or side streets. TxDOT has been limiting curb cuts on feeders as a result, but property owners scream holy he__.

Admittedly I’m personally not much a fan on how many feeder roads we have. It seems extremely excessive. Some are okay in areas but I personally don’t think they need to be on every single highway in the state. I would rather some of that land be dedicated to more general purpose lanes.

But yeah I agree I hate pulling out of a side street or a parking lot directly into a feeder road with traffic blitzing off the highway at 70 MPH and general traffic doing 50-60 and then you also have to get all the way over to the left to take a highway ramp or Texas U Turn.. it’s easy for me because I have two vehicles with nearly 500 horses but when it’s cold or wet and the tires don’t want to grip with all that torque hitting them, it becomes pretty hectic.

I agree, I'm not a big fan of the feeder roads either. They're convenient I will say that. But they mix too many different speeds of traffic and are dangerous, plus they put more traffic in the highway corridor by attracting businesses. I'd rather see less of them but TxDOT is committed to them for the most part.

I-10 does not go through Dallas.

Lousiana is kind of the opposite, you really gotta becareful in Lousiana, there are alot cops doing patrol and a ton of speed traps. In TX my auto insurance is aprox $320 mo for three cars with full coverage.
