Hi all- so a friend (really.. a friend.. not an “asking for a friend” post haha) traded her car in this past Saturday. The following night (overnight while sleeping) someone in her building backed into rear bumper causing some damage, not a lot, but enough to be an issue.

Quandary- she has not officially transferred her insurance to the new car. Looking for advice here. Will the existing policy for her previous car sustain, or should she go to the dealership or only the insurance company to rectify. Thanks and have a good Day!

Car- BMW SUV. Traded her 2015 for a 2018.

Usually, your existing coverage will cover a new car for x amount of days. I'm pretty sure mine is like 30 days. That will allow you time to get the new car on the policy. I know when I got my lease the dealership got my former insurance info presumably for that exact reason.
But of course, double check the policy your friend has.

AS sedimenjerry said, you have X amount of days to officially transfer.
