His/her net point remains, though. In a nation characterized by economic nomads and transplants running away from the atrocious wakes of de-industrialization and continued labor erosions imparted by Neoliberal Globalism, it's a fool's errand to continue to sing swan songs of ancestor worship. Demographics will shift, and with it will the culture and positions of the regional population, good bad or indifferent. Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way. Or put your money where your mouth is and organize ethnic or sectarian/tribal violence, and see how that fares for ya on an individual level. Alas, Americans are mostly bark no bite on that front.

A purple TX would suit me just fine for a transactional resident, and taxpayer. For the aggrieved, no sense crying over spilled milk. See first para.

I actually prefer purple states because it keeps both parties honest and they legitimately have to compete. In TX most leaders are actually chosen in lightly attended primaries rather than the general election where there is not meaningful competition. And the quality of candidates suffers as a result. I doubt, for example, the Louie Gohmert out in east TX would survive in a purple district.

Conservative voters don't want moderates, they want conservatives.

It's almost as if different states should have different laws to appeal to different people. If only the founders had thought of this...

You're right, that's why they don't generally choose Joe Manchin types except when they have to.

So why should conservatives be expected to only like Charlie Baker types who are basically Democrats?

They allowed different states to make different laws to better reflect the people that live there. Democrats (nowadays) typically want the federal government to have more say and not let the states make their own decisions.

Agreed. I think federalism is great and allows for a larger percentage of people to be happy.

We don't need 50 Californias.

They explictly advocated for state's rights in the 10th Amendments.
