Wow, this week is going to be really, really wretched, heatwise. Is this the harbinger of a really brutal summer?!

Haven't checked the almanac, but it could well be.

Don't know if it'll be brutal or not. I've seen it in the high 80's in January in Central Texas in the past (a week after it snowed in Austin, which is hardly ever does), and I've seen it in the 90's in May before. We don't have the AC on today, for what that's worth, but our house was built in the 1930's and so it's easy to cool without.

No, I'm in Abilene. It hit 90 today but the rest of the week is supposed to be wretched. I just came in from cutting the grass. NOT FUN. But at least it's not humid here.

I'm in Fort Worth. It was 92 degrees today and is forecast to be 97 for a couple of days, but at least it'll be windy. That isn't normal, but it doesn't necessarily mean that the whole summer will be above normal. Last summer was below normal; we didn't have a 100-degree day until August. But the humidity makes up for it. The older I get, the more brutal summer seems.

Well, my corn plants are going to love this but the young tomato plants are looking wilty already, sigh. Surprisingly, the lettuce is holding its own. I watered the garden deeply this evening and put down some more "homemade" compost. LOL, I also planted some more tomato seeds in a starter plant kit inside, just in case! If we can just make it through this week, the temperatures are supposed to moderate and my plants should grow strong and big enough to handle whatever may come later!

I say be thankful for what you've got. It's 37 right now in Corry, PA and it's looking to hit a scorching high of 52 today. It isn't supposed to hit the 60s again until Friday. I'll trade you this for your 90-something-degree May days anytime.
