I don't think McAllen is worth seeing and El Paso might be if it wasn't so far

Yeah. I'm sure most of us would be more motivated to check out El Paso if it weren't so far. You have to check El Paso on an individual West Texas trip where you stop to see the Big Bend and Marfa on the way.

El Paso is about the same distance from Houston as Atlanta is. If you want to add another city, New Orleans is MUCH MUCH closer to the rest of Texas than El Paso and a more interesting city.

The time to visit El Paso would be on a New Mexico trip when you visit Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Las Cruces. Then El Paso is right next door.

Yes, too far to be practical - I was just using it as an example of a true border city. If one is dying to experience that, there's always Laredo or Brownsville, both of which aren't nearly as far away.

Mind if I ask what there is to do in Eagle Pass? Serious question. I know they have that casino, but I don't know much about it after that.

Yes. But West Texas is worth visiting at some point. Not just for El Paso, but Marfa and the Big Bend too. Just because there's better options within the same distance doesn't mean you don't want to see the other place instead some time.

El Paso is by far the best border city in Texas... RGV has a beach and all but everything is so spread out and requires lots of driving. Mcallen is over an hour drive from SPI.
