The water lines froze.

Though not the coldest temps ever recorded it was probably the longest prolonged cold. Dallas and northward had below zero during several 24 hour periods. Here in my SE corner of Texas it was 8*F one morning and 13*F and 16*F on other mornings. Texas is not structurally built for this extreme of the weather spectrum, especially plumbing.

As far as Jerry Jones is concerned here's what I do know. The SI story seemed more of a tabloid hit piece than sports story which fits the profile of writer Michael Rosenberg . While the OP editorialized the "Nice Guy, eh?" and I wonder if he could tell us spot market prices on these days and also does Jerry Jones make these decisions or does his oil and gas managers make these calls. Please Skeddy, take the time to answer the questions on the forum here for us all to assess you knowlege base on the facts or decide whether you are the type that would gleefully arouse a lynch mob.

Are you aware that Jerry Jones cleared the schedule of AT&T Stadium and opened it for the public for Chris Kyle's funeral? Kyle was a true Texas hero. 25,000 Texans accepted the invitation.

I think for you to personally attack Jerry Jones the way you did with incomplete info AND fomenting hate reflects very poorly on you and your obvious lack of good strong character.
And I'm almost positive this PR helped Jerry financially in the long run. Like the article said, shrewd businessman.

The hatefulness of people is overwhelming at times.

I am guessing you're an Entergy customer as I am. In my part of Texas we are not on an unregulated grid as the people who are screaming about cost fluctuations. I can't pick my provider as there is only Entergy and I'm guess the PUC has regulatory power on their rates (or at least will exercise that power). I'm all electric also (even though a 48" gas line runs across the rear of my acreage. I'm thinking a 500 gallon propane tank and whole house generator is in my future. We only had a 10 hour outage but it was planned not from direct line damage.
Don't imply that I said "Look at Jerry Jones the a$$hole," because I didn't, or anything remotely like that. Maybe you have a sensitivity or fixation on that particular billionaire. Giving a birthday bash for a local hero a decade ago doesn't make him a good person. He's a billionaire business person. It was good for business. You keep mentioning it, so it was definitely good for business, although it happened a long time ago. Giving a birthday bash years ago doesn't make him a great guy. Kicking in what to him are pennies to help with the thousands of dollars in overcharges for utility bills sent out by the company he holds a majority stake in? That would make him a great guy. But I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for that.

So it's beginning to seem like it's only certain energy companies that didn't weatherize and whose systems collapsed or were inadequate. Friends in Dallas said they weren't hit with huge bills, and they are deregulated. Maybe some companies can choose to stay on the grid or not. It's an odd system in Texas, to have different areas doing different things.

Birthday bash, don't be an idiot. It was his funeral after he was assassinated. Your ignorance is highlighted here. Calling him local as he sacrificed by serving his country through many tours in the mid-east is demeaning in the least.

I have no affinity for Jerry Jones but I do for common sense.

This fiasco was brought about starting with Rick Perry and every governor since him along with every legislature and legislator. These are the ones to blame. Billing is not hashed out yet to individuals as several electrical providers are in disarray, disbanded, or declaring bankruptcy. Believe me, there is plenty of blame to go around. JJ is way, way, way down the list if he's even on the list and again not making market decisions as he has managers for such.

Turns out that the residential natural gas service was starting to empty during the storm. If the natural gas storage is completely spent, those Generac home generators would stop working.

To cook dinner on that Wednesday, I had to manually light my new gas cooktop. It did not get hot enough to boil water/soup or reheat the corned beef leftovers from lunch (had power earlier in the day). When the power came back on a couple hours later, the flame was back to its normal hotness.
