Looks like they did feel guilty...

ERCOT officials, during a press conference last week, said it had removed personal information about the directors from its website because the board members were experiencing harassment.

Yeah... They haven't been transparent about what actually happened, in details, either...

Again. If we knew how bad the plants are prepared, we would prepare better ourselves.

Default Cowards

I'm not so kind, in my opinion... they took the cowardly approach. I wonder what they have to hide, or don't want exposed that they would sacrifice their position? 'Sorry, but most board positions pay extremely well for "advice", most welcome those types of income streams. I am sure we will hear what it is, the truth always comes out in the end.

Blaming ERCOT is really just using a convenient, if somewhat illogical, scapegoat. They were probably like, 'screw y'all, we're outta here'. It is our elected officials that opted not to require the generators (in particular) to not weatherize. And us for not worrying about it after 2011. ERCOT has no power to stop what happened.

That is true - there were two main causes for trouble:
- Texas power plants winterized on a voluntary basis only
- Texas grid is deliberately isolated and could not accept power from neighboring states

Neither one of those decisions is made by ERCOT, who doesn't have the authority. They are made by the state politicians and the Power and Utility Commission (PUC) of the government - who also happen to be overseen by the politicians of the state govt.

This exercise going on where the ERCOT people are being flogged by the state's politicians is just political theater.

Bill Magness, CEO of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas was just fired.

Maybe he can donate his $876,000 per year salary to all Texans who are being told increased costs will be charged to them (either immediately or over a period of years) by our utility providers because of Texas leadership's incompetence (elected officials and multiple companies etc.) and their insistence on consistantly answering to the almighty dollar.

Abbott, Cruz and other Texas leadership also share in the blame of this despite them trying to sue, deflect and point their fingers at others but themselves. There needs to be repercussions to them as well.

Sorry, suing others, casting blame elsewhere, traveling to other warm spots not in Texas that has electricity only to return immediately because of being caught and then posing for a pic in a seemingly empty parkingot to give impression of helping with disaster relief (but was really bad optics fallout control) will not cut it.

Right, a simple Mandate to weatherize our Grid by Gov Abbott & our Republican ran goverment would have avoided this mess.

Yes, true.

Just like our neighboring states regularly do (who some of which also has cheaper electricity costs then us).

Also, the warnings and the writing was on the wall for decades with the "loan wolf" approach to our grid. Not just for freak storms but for multiple things.

We have had significant outages before. We have electricity Interconnects to some other states but they are minor and insufficient to provide needed electricity at large scale in times of need. Texas is alone in the way our state takes this approach. We avoid significant and adequate interconnects to the nation's grid largely to avoid federal regulations.

This loan wolf approach, while profitable, hasn't led to the lowest cost (or at least lower then the lowest cost of states who do have major connections to other states and do regularly winterize their grids and who are not significantly isolated form the grid.

What it has led to now is death and destruction. These things are on Abbott's, Cruz's, other leaderships and our local utilities hands.
