It's kind of odd. In Houston, the highs are expected to be around 90-91 tomorrow, just like today and yesterday, but it hasn't seemed as hot as we all expected. Very warm, sure, but not summer hot, if that makes sense.

The humidity in the afternoon has actually been pretty low. I think the fact that the it's been in the upper 60s/low 70s in the morning makes the highs seem less severe, since the hottest part of the day is from "only" about noon to 5:00 PM.

That said, it's obviously more uncomfortable than last week, when the highs were in the mid 70s.

... and won't really let up (except for rainy days) until the end of October. It always seems that right around Halloween is the first 20 degree drop and we start seeing 50's in the evening and 70's during the day.

Our street is a symphony of A/C compressors right now. Too bad they can't make them play different notes so they would make a pleasant ensemble together.

I'm getting pretty good at minimizing use of my central air. I leave all of the windows open at night to cool down the house and close them when I get up. Then, I turn on the ceiling and tower fans, load the evaporative cooler with ice and cold water, and turn that on, too. I'm finding that I don't need to use the AC until 5-6 p.m., and then it's just occasionally for four hours until it cools down again at night.

We mostly have dry heat, though. On the days when we do have humidity issues, I have to run the AC more.

My gawd!!! My poor parents are roasting at 97 and my sister at 95 today (if they bother to venture outside, that is).......and so is Midland. So....I'm not going to complain overmuch with 83 and 5% humidity here in NM.

I hear you on South Texas.....it is REALLY miserable down there when it gets this hot!!!
