The Christmas present Trump promised the middle class turned out to be a trinket. The tax cut’s benefits to middle-wage earners worked out to about $65 a month, according to numbers crunched by the nonpartisan Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy. As passed, the income tax cuts will begin to phase out in 2025, and by 2027 many working-class wage earners will face a higher tax burden. Republicans structured the law this way to hold the projected cost of the bill below a $1.5 trillion threshold that allowed for Senate passage with just 50 votes. Future Congresses, they argued, would of course act to prevent any tax hike on the working class. Key to note, however: Corporations were spared any similar anxiety about their future tax burden. The corporate cuts don’t expire under this law.

In marketing his tax bill, Trump made wild promises about indirect benefits of his giveaway, including that the “huge tax cut will be rocket fuel for our economy,” driving GDP growth as high as six percent and boosting wages between $4,000 and $9,000 a year. It was familiar nonsense. Far from representing a break from the economic policies of the old-line GOP, Trump’s tax cut built on the ruinous legacy of “trickle down” economics championed by George W. Bush and Reagan. “It’s a lie,” says Blyth, “and the lie is that if you give rich people these tax cuts, investment will skyrocket and [new wealth will] trickle down to everyone else. It never works.

Republicans are the most confusing, they are pro-corporate in their policy, anti-corporate in their rhetoric. They are pro-college in their personal lives (Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz), and anti-college in their rhetoric. They are pro-America at NFL games, and anti-America at the Olympics.

What's confusing about it? There are 70million+ people who voted Republican, so of course they aren't going to all be one homogenous group.

Some here are expecting all "R: voters to be carbon copies of each other.

This proves something I have always thought about the left leaning people I know.

Many really do not know many right leaning people at all. Otherwise, you'd know we are all fairly different and do not vote or think in lock step.

Some are driven by religious dogma, some are social conservatives, some are fiscal conservatives, some (like me) tend to be more libertarian in their leanings.

When you post things like "well....is the what you hear on Fox News?" or other nonsense, this does NOT make you look smart. What if I told you I do not even have a cable package the CARRIES that channel?

The left loves to say THEY are a big tent group and maybe that is true...but why is it so hard for them to think that maybe the right is ALSO a big tent and not everyone thinks alike?

Not everyone on the right worships Ronald Reagan or is a fan of Trump.

And for the person amazed that conservatives are pro-America at the NFL games and anti at the Olympics, there was no difference there. We simply did not care that the kneeling and protesting types lost. If you do not like a country...why represent them in a world competition? This is not a totally invalid belief, if you think about it.

Actually, Hillary handing the Russkies that "reset button" gift with re-set mis-spelled was another wonderful moment in Russkie diplomacy. LOL

They both do the taking. It may blow your mind to find out that Biden and the rest of the "Moderate" democrats are actually republicans lol. Make no mistake, we are a 1 party country when you look at policy history.

Poor uneducated Minorities are typically liberal
Young urban ideologist professionals (all races) with little success, or experience, typically are liberal

Poor uneducated whites, especially WASPS, typically vote Conservative
Young traditional suburbanite professionals (usually white) with little success, or experience, typically are conservative.

Older baby boomers who were once on the front lines of the Liberal movement int the 60s are now magically repulsed by it and vote Conservative. (this one still confuses me)

Middle age professionals (all races) in the suburbs typically vote Conservative.
Middle age professionals (all races) in the city typically vote liberal

Poor older people (all races) is a toss up

Of course, there are exceptions to these rules but both the Ds and Rs know these are their base.
