Or maybe it is based in science. You can't get any more expert than a world renowned director of vaccine research (and much more). I don't know where y'all get your info, but it's probably best to start with the real experts and not social media influencers.

If you let people just do what they want, of course hospitalizations are going to continue to go up.

You have to realize that if you want our kids to go back to school, it’s got to be all hands on deck. It’s not fun to talk about mandates. But if you really want to make in-person schooling work, you have to have everybody masked in school, and everybody vaccinated who’s eligible to be vaccinated. That’s just the reality.

To deny it and say, “This interferes with our health freedom” or whatever is nonsense. We’ve already seen what happened in Mississippi and Arkansas, where people just let it rip. What happened was, so many kids got COVID, they had to shut it down.

Never attribute to Malice what can be better explained by Stupidity.

This is sort of like a Stupid Virus.

And Texas is having a Pandemic of Stupid.

Yes, that's a dictator
Kids could still wear masks if their parents wanted them to. Plus kids had more deaths from the flu than from covid, but yet we didn't mask kids for the flu. Also, don't put kids in a pool or car...that is way more dangerous. I know more kids that have died from drowning than have even been hospitalized in the last 2 years. All we are doing to these kids is making them scared of anything, when they aren't at risk. The data supports it, but people ignore it acting like a kid is an 80 year old with 4 underlying health conditions.

We haven't even got into the fact that masks don't work. Many schools were open all of this past school year without mask, and there were next to zero issues. Yea, lets put a muzzle on a kid and let them build up bacteria all day on that filthy thing that can't stop virus particles. Protecting kids by keeping them away from germs is a bad idea, and a disaster for these kids immune systems in the future.

Anyone who restricts freedom is a tyrant, I don't care what position they are in.

The pandemic in the world and even the United States is in the stupidity of the measures we took and continue to take thinking we can stop something that has never been stopped before and we can't see.

The real pandemic is now the lose of freedoms we will never get back unless we do a 180 or freedom places succeed.

We lived in TX several years ago when Perry was governor and we thought he was a doofus, but Abbott is downright evil! We had thought about moving back to TX from AZ (because Ducey is nothing but a trump butt-kisser) but all that consideration on our part went out the window as we watched Abbott ruin TX and put people in jeopardy. He, along with several other governors, could care less about the wellbeing of the people. They only care about themselves and how they can profit. I hope people wake up in all these states and get rid of these "leaders" come election time. They know they're on the chopping block and that's why the voter suppression is so strong. This whole country is hanging by a thread and these guys are trying to cut that thread. It's all about power and money. We're headed toward Authoritarianism if we don't vote.

Hawgwash. Yeah, Perry was & is a doofus, but Abbott is nowhere close.
I think he’s wrong to try to forbid the local entities from enacting masking mandates, but the current “mutiny” will run roughshod over that policy. Tough luck on that one, Greg. You can’t win them all. Otherwise he’s done a decent job.
“Evil” is just stupid rhetoric.

But anyone who thinks a democrat governor is going to keep this state in better shape is living in fantasy land. The democrat party here is as bad as any other pack of corrupt snakes. Look at what they are doing to the large urban areas.

Abbott is going all the way to the Supreme Court in his efforts to protect the right of Republicans to acquire and spread disease. The state's hospitals are overflowing with Covid-19 patients, and are exporting patients to neighboring states and importing healthcare workers from all over - the result of these bizarre priorities. The Supreme Court has a clear majority of conservatives, but unless they are malicious, which I don't think they are, they won't side with Abbott. There is plenty of precedent for requiring public health measures to prevent the spread of serious disease - it's not new.

That is the most succinct and descriptive way to put it - the right to acquire and spread disease.

I've lost a few older relatives, friends, and I know somebody who is just getting to the point where he can recognize people again after being hospitalized over a month with COVID. Ask ANY public health expert (you can find lots right here at the school of public health in the med center) and they will tell you a lot of this could have been prevented.

But yea, I think all politicians regardless of the party are crooked.
