And deer, and da coppers, and road construction! We always carry a case of water, and gads, and keep a good eye on the gas gauge. THANKS!!

Seriously, watch out for deer and feral hogs on the road after dark. Hitting a deer will cause damage to your car, and hitting a hog could actually roll the car over. Personally, I don't like driving after dark in rural areas because of the risk, especially in the fall during deer season. Yes, feral hogs are a problem all over Texas. They tear up land, destroy fences, and reproduce very rapidly!

Stay a night in Fort Stockton or Sonora. The Caverns of Sonora are neat because the rooms are smaller, and the formations are much more delicate, than larger caverns.

I've only done it one time, in 2019
I left Houston at midnight and arrived in El Paso around noon.

I LOVED THE TRIP
I drove from Houston to Sonora in about 6 hours from midnight to 6am
Around that time, I notice the sun was rising and stopped to take picture with my family
One of the best pictures I've taken

After that, drove from Sonora to El Paso from 6am to about noon
Beautiful drive with zero traffic.

I recommend you looking into "Balmorhea State Park"
