This began many years ago in regard to littering. I sometimes still see it displayed on trashcans, the symbol of the slogan, entering Texas and at Texas rest stops, and also on signs along the highways that include mentioning a fine for littering. But I think it has taken on a different meaning to those who do not know it is a slogan for anti-littering.

The slogan, without reference to littering, is on numerous souvenirs like coffee cups, T-shirts and other clothing items, decals and bumper stickers, key chains and even postcards. It is upfront and clear to outsiders who are not "friends" of Texas. IMO it is saying "DO NOT MESS WITH TEXAS".

What is everyone's opinion about this slogan? Should it remain a "littering" reference or should it be updated/used in a manner more fitting to the message in today's society?

It almost feels like it took on a DON'T TREAD ON ME meaning in recent years.

The only other state litter slogan that came as close to cathcy as "DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS" was
Let’s Keep Georgia Peachy Clean . It's definitely sounds much more friendly, haha.

I don’t see a problem with it at all.
People seem to look for anything to get offended about.

Same here. I've heard it all my life, and understand what it's about. Not interested in seeing something - like a problem - that isn't there. Have better things to do.

Agree, especially when it's written in another language

In regard to trash being thrown on the highway, it has proven to be very effective.
