If you are a space enthusiast, then JSC would be good. It's just less available to the public nowdays since security has become an issue. I would recommend Houston Museum of Natural Sciences (HMNS.org) if you like space and sciences...

Thumbs up Bayou City Visit

Hey, also in Houston, be sure to stop by the observation deck at Williams Tower (off the West Loop at Westheimer). Take a drive and check out all the wonderful places in Houston's Uptown area, which is located just north of the Galleria. It's been called the Beverly Hills of the South by some, and I believe it. You'll want to take your camera. Also, check out the new Discovery Green district in Downtown Houston. It's brand new and it offers a nice park setting amid the modern, new architecture they have there.

Here's a link: Discovery Green Houston Downtown Park - See. Touch. Hear. Taste. Explore.

And you will also want to check the Astros' schedule for info on tickets. They are a team you'll want to see at Minute Maid Park this year. And, please, don't forget to get Southeast Texas' best barbecue at Goode Company.

I second this drive. It is our personal favorite. We always stay at an RV park in Crystal Beach. The fishing is great ! Great seafood restaurants in Galveston too. Galveston has just way too many things to see and do. Do a search on it and decide for yourself.

Consider dividing your time in the Metroplex (DFW) area to at least half, preferably more in Fort Worth and the remainder in Dallas. We always stay in Fort Worth as it's just more interesting, better places to eat, just more to do. Fort Worth has several good museums including the Kimbrell, Amon Carter, Sid Richardson, and others. Other places to visit include The Stockyards, Billy Bob's Texas and many other places. Dallas does have a nice arboretum and botanical garden plus maybe Love Field and Southfork Ranch somewhere to the north.

Okay, it has been over a year and a half since I asked about doing a roadtrip in Texas. I finally did it with my brother in May 2009. I figured I'd give you the link to the photos I took while I was there:

Texas 05.23 - 30 2009 - a set on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mike_s_etc/sets/72157619365192588/ - broken link)

Enjoy. It was fun!!

Texas in July? NO WAY, JOSE!!

If by "Southern California" you mean you live in the Mojave desert, then certainly Texas in July might seem a tad cooler to you. Otherwise be prepared for really drenching sweatiness and masochistic forays to see anything that requires being out of an air conditioned environment.
