I'm single professional woman in my 30s and currently in Austin. I'm concerned with the increasing crime and homeless situation here and would like to move away. I'm conservative and have been to Midland a handful of times for work and found the pace nice, the people friendly and it was refershing to be around people who share my values. However, curious if there are a decent amount of single people there or is it mostly families? I've also seen people comment on crime/safety in Midland-- is it generally a safe feeling city or is crime a problem?

I would not move to Midland as a single woman unless you're already working in the oil/gas industry. The industry dominates the town, so it is a very boom/bust economy. When oil prices are high, housing is in short supply and everything is expensive. Although the official population statistics don't show it, Midland has a lot of single men due to the oilfields, and a large percentage of them are very transient due to the nature of the industry. Yes, that population also contributes to increased crime rates.

If you're mainly looking for more fellow conservatives, you'll find that throughout west Texas. Several similarly-sized towns will offer you a much higher quality of life: San Angelo, Abilene, Lubbock, etc.

What about Amarillo? I've been there several times for work, and the people I interacted with were nice and straightforward. We never got into political leanings, but I know it's conservative. They were tech people in the O&G industry. Others can provide much more info on Amarillo though.

Midlands, or its neighbor Odessa, sounds perfect for you. You should look for a place asap as housing prices will go up soon as oil price climbs.

Are there really that many single people in any of those towns? I figured it was mostly all families.

I think Fort Worth or San Antonio is a good bet.

I’m going to second the Fort Worth option. San Antonio can be a little blue in certain spots.

There's no way either Fort Worth or San Antonio can beat Midessa in terms of homelessness or crime. Stop distracting OP from paradise with unwanted suggestions.

Midessa is far from "paradise."

Fort Worth has a crime rate of 31.66 per 1000 residents.
San Antonio is 50.92
Midland is 22.52, and Odessa is 40.69

I was sensing sarcasm in his post.
