I have read a lot of OLD postings about Laredo and Del Rio but could I get some comments about them currently. I am on my way from Corpus Christi to El Paso and trying to find a route that is interesting to someone who has never traveled anywhere except around major cities. I am thinking of spending the night in either Laredo or Del Rios and then … I’m not sure. Any advice especially safety-wise about traveling south Texas.

You will be fine in either town safety wise, just don't be dumb. I think both towns are interesting in their own way. I think driving through Del Rio and Uvalde could be fun. Laredo will be more out of the way, and maybe not worth it, unless maybe you wanna party for the night, Laredo would be more fun.

Both are border towns, but Laredo is much larger than Del Rio.

My in-laws live in Del Rio, and we visit several times a year. With all of the DPS Troopers at the border right now, hotels in Del Rio are full, and the few that have rooms are expensive.

Do not go across into Mexico at either town. It is not safe for Americans anymore due to risks of kidnapping.

Honestly, if you’re driving to El Paso, just take I-10.

Thank you so much. I did notice rooms being strangely expensive and I couldn’t figure out why. Now it makes sense.
