Uh, the outages have not been along the lines of socioeconomics - no clue why you're taking it there. The largest outage in the state right now is in Collin county, certainly not the land of the poor.

There haven't been many outages and those that have happened have happened because of ice build up on lines and on trees. And they're pretty indiscriminate when it comes to who they hit.

IMO this is worse than last year with the ice in Collin County. Thank god the power is staying on, because the ice is so bad I can't leave my driveway with the car. My car was never stuck last year, since that was all snow. Minus the power outages, the snow was really fun and far more restaurants were open so we could get warm food.

The ice is just terrible, though the sun is finally out and hopefully all will melt away.

It's freaking cold out there - 25 degrees here in NE Texas with a "feels like" temperature of 15 degrees. My dogs thought they wanted outside but they came in quickly after doing their business. Thank goodness I don't have to go anywhere because I don't want to get dressed for this weather.

I don't even want to go check the mail! LOL

I can't get down my driveway either because of the ice. But we had ice here last year too and in my opinion, it was a lot worse, and lasted longer. And my car was stuck last year due to the ice. This is supposed to clear out by tomorrow here.

I was so worried about this morning because 8-9 AM was when the power was supposed to hit peak demand, but I still have power. Tomorrow's supposed to have a high of 44, and Sunday's supposed to have a high of 52. I think the worst is over.

I can imagine Beto & Co. are disappointed there hasn’t been a statewide power grid outage yet.

But yeah, the usual localized outages are always gonna happen.
It was always annoying when some dumb squirrel would climb the pole behind the neighbor’s house across the street and get itself fried instantly, blowing out a transformer which in turn knocked the power off for the block.

Why in the actual **** do people continue to make this into a political thing? Do some think that politicians actually control the weather or something?

Because Abbott promised us he fixed it. And yet over 70,000 people lost power at some point.

He lied.

Not even three full weeks ago, 200,000+ people lost power on the east coast after the storm that hit there. Especially when you have ice, you're going to have some power outages. 70K is along what I would expect for a winter event like this in Texas.

I'm not a huge fan of Abbott in general, but I have absolutely no issues with how the power has been managed during this event so far.

I can imagine Abbott excited that we had a winter storm so he can call a press conference and talk about how good of a job he's doing because this winter we haven't had a grid power failure.
