Sure. Did WHATABURGER going national make it any less popular and iconic in Texas?

That store is GENIUS. Began as one gas station in Lake Jackson, Texas, that advertised clean bathrooms, owned by a guy with big dreams.

Archibald "Beaver" Aplin. A guy with a vision.

Noticed on a trip to South Texas that there’s a Buc Ee’s in Wharton, TX. Meaning there’s a mega Buc Ee’s around Houston in all 8 cardinal directions except N and NE. Wonder why they’re anti that region.

(I specified mega Buc Ee’s because some Houston suburbs have smaller Buc Ee’s locations as well). However N/NE have neither.

100 miles Scott ! And veering west.

There are no Buc-ees SE of Htown either . Bucees has forgot about a huge part of Texas that is not far from the home offices. 59N/I-69N is not served. Nothing east of Houston metro area on I-10 (Baytown is Houston metro). I'd guess I-20 east of DFW is not served either. But Dollywood will be served!

What's not to love about Buc-ee's! Heard my grown kids expounding on how the grands loved them. So, took the opportunity to patronize two stores in Florida on a recent trip to Cocoa Beach & back (St. Augustine & Daytona stores). SPARKLING CLEAN, well lit, stocked restrooms. NO surly employees. Pretty good food, all things considered. Between both trips, we sampled the brisket & the pulled pork, a chef's salad. Those big drinks are cheap! And the variety! If you can't find it in Buc-ee's, do you really need it?!! I was not happy to eat in the car, BUT, my husband loved it, as we were back on the road faster. And, heaven knows, there were heaps & gobs of folks already in there without furnishing even more a place to hang out (less clean up, too). The retail choices amazed me. I could hit the road for a Buc-ee's to do my shopping for holidays, showers, etc. Yeah, I bought a Buc-ee's t-shirt! Yeah, I wear it. Great place to get out & take a break. Stretch the legs, have a quick bite OR a meal. Satisfy the shopping whims a lot of us have on the road (I usually have & will spend more on trips). No, I am not part of a cult.

I dunno. For some odd reason...NE Texas and SE Houston just do not get too much cool stuff. There are no HEBs in East Texas and few in the SE area in Houston. Maybe there is just not a demand for it or the traffic to warrant placing a Buc-ees there...not sure.

Agreed (although I’m sure SE Houston is quite proud to be the home of NASA). But regardless, Buc-Ee’s could have a location somewhere near Conroe or Huntsville.

They didn’t put a location directly near south Dallas nor North Houston but instead one right in between. Maybe it’s a real estate. Who knows.

Walmart has such a strong hold on East Texas is probably one reason. Every sizable town has one. Although there are HEBs in East Texas, it's only a handful (one in Lufkin, one in Carthage, etc.), and Beaumont/PA has a couple too.
