Bill: Hire an Illegal Alien, Go to Jail — Unless It's Your Maid - Feb. 24th, 2011

House Bill 1202, authored by state Rep. Debbie Riddle, R-Tomball, (REPUBLICAN) would make it a state jail felony to knowingly hire undocumented workers in Texas. The bill would punish those who “intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly” hire or contract with an "unauthorized alien", or with someone who knowingly subcontracts with an undocumented worker. The maximum fine is $10,000, and guilty parties could face a stint in prison of 180 days to two years. (Riddle has also filed HB 17, legislation that would make being in the state illegally a trespassing offense.)

There is also an exception for domestic help. People who hire or contract with someone for work “exclusively or primarily at a single-family residence" are off the hook.
I think your interpretation is wrong.

The bill in fact is punitive toward businesses that knowingly hire someone who is undocumented while sparing the individual legal issues (which could provide financial hardship to the single household). So the "little people" actually have protection through this bill. Surely you must appreciate this attempt to guide big business to not support illegal entry into our state while protecting the single individual. No bill is perfect.

So .... Republicans support hiring illegal immigrants by individuals?
Once again, twisting like a pretzel to defend Republican politicians ... accepting that they are wrong is never an option.

The real shame is that there are never enough people on both sides that push for a move away from the awful current income tax system and to a flat tax with zero deductions.

A system that cannot be used as a punishment and rewards system by whatever party is in power. Both parties do this over and over.

The other problem is...there are simply not enough wage earners actually paying income taxes. In the bottom 50% of wage earners....they only pay around 3% of all federal income taxes collected. How is this a "fair" system? Everyone should pay something....everyone paying the same percentage of their earnings with no deductions is the only fair taxation system we could ever have.

How are we to know if a landscaper or maid service worker is illegal?
The democrats & the advocates for the illegals insist that they cannot be questioned about their immigration status even if arrested for a crime.
Plus the Travis County LEOs have been ordered to not cooperate with ICE.

No twist. Just my belief my social fascist friend! Why chase the small fry around burning limited resources when the big fish swim freely. Are you against that?

Are you not arguing for leaving no stone unturned in the effort to oust all illegals? Those working for big business and for individuals. I'm surprised you are in favor of forcibly removing all illegal aliens from Texas.
Pretty hard hearted fo sho !

Politicians only like broken system that they can manipulate
I guarantee that they love our tax system

Solution is flat tax above living wage.
Let's say living wage per person is $20k, any income above $20k pay a flat tax of 20%.
Person 1 makes $15k => pays no taxes
Person 2 makes $80k => pays taxes on $60k => $12k paid in taxes => 15% tax rate
Person 3 makes $200k => pays taxes on $180k => $36k paid in taxes => 18% tax rate

This is nothing new about this, they use a similar system for social security taxes ... but the other way around.
Everybody pays social security taxes up to $147,000. Anything above that, doesn't pay social security taxes.
And ... the cap is adjusted for inflation.

Neil Boortz wrote a book about a system very similar.

The income tax system we have now is not sustainable. You simply cannot spend like we do and only have half the wage earners paying income taxes. That is completely irresponsible and yeah...not fair.
