I'll let the republican Texas Agriculture Commissioner explain it to you

Predicting food shortages, Sid Miller calls on Gov. Greg Abbott to stop new vehicle inspections at the border

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller called on Gov. Greg Abbott to halt his recent policy of additional commercial inspections at the border, calling the measure “political theater” and predicting it will leave grocery store shelves empty within weeks.
In an open letter addressed to the governor Tuesday, Miller said Abbott’s “economy killing action” is exacerbating already strained supply chains and causing massive produce shortages resulting in “untold losses” for Texas businesses.
“Your inspection protocol is not stopping illegal immigration,” Miller said in his letter. “It is stopping food from getting to grocery store shelves and in many cases causing food to rot in trucks — many of which are owned by Texas and other American companies. … The people of Texas deserve better!”

So you are unable to explain your claims and instead want the Texas Agriculture Commissioner to provide conjecture as to the cause? If you are not able to answer those questions how about answering these two from my previous post?

  • Was that produce so old it could not withstand another 10 - 12 hours and was already over ripe?

Well, who can blame him?
Our so-called commander in chief and his cackling sidekick, refuse to even acknowledge a problem exists on our southern border. Illegal immigrants, illegal drugs, human trafficking are all rampant like never before. We had measures in place that were actually working to help control all this, but as soon as tater head and that high-heeled hyena took office, they cancelled what was working. Political games are more important to them than actually protecting this country and it's legal (gasp! ) population.
At least Abbott is doing whatever he can to help control the problem, unlike the White House washouts that are supposed to be protecting our borders and our country.
What are you talking about? The Biden administration tossed more would be immigrants back to Mexico under Title 42 than Trump did. It's not like they just opened the gates and said "come on in", despite the plaintive mewlings of the uninformed Trump class to the contrary. The Biden administration is also far more likely to follow the actual law than the Trump administration was, since Trump did not care what the law actually said, he only cared what he thought.

There are no easy answers to immigration across the Southern border, given its length and the desire of would be immigrants to improve their lot in life. If you want to stop illegal immigration, perhaps you should start severely penalizing the owners of companies that hire illegal immigrants. Or maybe make it easier to get seasonal workers temporary visas. What do you tell a woman who saw her husband and oldest son murdered by criminals? "Sucks to be you, go back and watch your younger sons become criminals or get murdered too"?

Some of the trucks were delayed for days, not 12 hours. Trucks carrying produce do not carry enough fuel for the refrigeration to run for days, and produce rots quickly inside a trailer with no refrigeration. Especially things like avocados, tomatoes, strawberries, etc.

https://www.texastribune.org/2022/04...r-inspections/

Abbott was grandstanding for his own benefit, and did nothing to improve anything. In a just world, he would be slapped down by a Federal court for interfering with international trade, a function reserved for the Federal government. Same thing for his "agreements" with officials in Mexico - Abbott cannot legally make those agreements.

You're providing hyperbolic information. Have not found any Left Wing News Media outlet that hasn't already been discredited stating more than an average 14 hour wait. This source is reporting delays of days yet it seems Felix the 60 year old trucker was reporting only 13 hours. Seems that the source can't keep their information straight. I suspect the trucks that were "delayed for days" were most likely the 25% that were taken out of commission for serious safety hazards. Do you have any actual authoritative sources that collected accurate information?

As for Refers they can operate for quite awhile as can the tractor towing it particularly if they are idle they are not consuming as much fuel/energy. Fairly freshly picked produce is not going to rot in any trailer that quickly. Produce that has been heavily handled and delayed already can and most likely will. That can easily be seen in plenty of trash produce on store shelves these days.

As for Abbott he would not need to take such measures if this administration did their job! In a "just world" this administration would already have been brought to their knees after being forced to realize the destruction they are causing. But we know we don't live in a "just world" and only one with politicians of all stripes who don't really give a rats butt about the people they are elected to serve.

You have no idea what you are talking about. None. Abbott is specifically forbidden from dealing with international trade by the Constitution. He can't interfere with international trade, make deals with foreign leaders, none of that. You would think an attorney would ahve some clue about the Constitution.

What "destruction" is the Biden administration causing? Be specific, with links to non-right wing hate sites. Use sites that are trustworthy, like NPR, CNN, etc, not BS sites like Fox that merely repeat the lies of the right wing morons ruining this country.

Most of the produce in Mexico is grown 1000 miles away from Texas, not directly across the border. Mexican trucks are going to be near the end of their fuel when they deliver in Texas, since fuel is cheaper in Mexico. Making trucks wait for hours or days WILL result in those trucks running out of reefer fuel.

First you need to stay on topic and be sure you read other posters words carefully. We were discussing the State of Texas and the effects of their enhanced inspections and NOT Abbott's agreements with Mexico. The constitution does not bar any State from administering their laws which is what The State of Texas is doing with the enhanced inspections. I fully expect that Abbott has had very good legal representation reviewing what his plan was with respect to the enhanced inspections regardless what it might do.

As a point of fact I am not a Democrat, Republican, Liberal, Progressive, Conservative, Right Wing, Left Wing, etc., etc., etc. I don't identify with any group as I do not need a group to tell me what to think.

Next you need to leave your CNN and NPR bubble for awhile and listen to other news sources, including FOX, and then use critical thinking to wade through the BS that comes with all networks and news reporting. It's not hard to find the inconsistencies and outright false information. The rest takes a little more thinking to weed out the truth. BTW you have named the two networks that have Zero credibility! Even the American people have weighed in on that as CNN's ratings and viewership have dropped across the board.

Third you have displayed one very large aspect of my "destruction" statement right here in your own post with this statement "since fuel is cheaper in Mexico". If you try reading across the news spectrum and weed through the hype the OBiden Administration has waged a war on the fossil fuel industry and started their actions on day one of his presidency with cancelling the Keystone XL pipeline as well as a host of other executive orders aimed at killing the American energy sector. He even campaigned on doing just that! As a result fuel prices have risen significantly well before the supposed "Putin Price Hike" actions. Also if you read about energy you would see that price increases during at least the first 15 - 30 days of the Ukraine war had nothing to do with the invasion. Of course you would need to listen to other than CNN and NPR to find that out. And by the way if you have been listening to the other Left Leaning Mainstream Media news channels you will see they are desperately trying to backtrack on their OBiden support since even they are having problems covering for OBiden and hiding this adminstrations stupidity.

We can go on and on about inflation, etc., etc., but we all know that even though it was well on its way and there before the Ukraine invasion it's still Putin's Price Hikes, or is it the fault of the manufacturers trying to profiteer, or no I know it's the fault of the American people for overspending coming out of the COVID lockdowns!

Now we will touch on your defense of why the trucks don't have enough fuel because most of the produce is grown 1000 miles away from Texas and not across the border. BTW can you "Be specific, with links to non-right wing hate sites. Use sites that are trustworthy" displaying your "fact"(??)? If fuel is so much cheaper in Mexico and they had to drive from 1000 miles away and may have to drive another 1000 miles inside the US then why wouldn't they take the opportunity to fill their tiny tanks on the Mexico side of the border? After all wouldn't they want to take advantage of the huge price difference and not have to support our high fuel costs here? You know the fuel costs as a result of the OBiden administration's war on fossil fuels and killing America's energy independence.

What we have in this country are far to many people who choose to listen/watch far left leaning news organizations such as CNN and NPR and not take the time to think about what they are being told, to bother checking the disinformation these sites spread, use a variety of sites to gain their information, and to weed through the chaff to get the actual truth. Instead they want to continually post links from these and other sites that do little more than spread inaccurate or downright false information. Americans need to open their ears, eyes, and use their brains or consign themselves to forever being told what to do, what to think, and how to live their lives the way those in control would like them to.

The last time I listened to Fox, I threw up from the stupidity displayed by the traitors that populate that hate site. No one on Fox is an actual journalist. They are all political buffoons, incapable of telling the truth if it doesn't match their right wing feelz.

Biden has done nothing to disrupt fuel prices here. That's on OPEC and the banks that are not funding non-economic wells like they used to. You can't name one drilling project that Biden has halted.

Fuel in Mexico is cheaper than here because it is subsidized. I don't think gas prices here are particularly high in any case.

The US was never energy independent.

If you refuse to open your eyes and see what the Texas agriculture commissioner says
There nothing I can do to help you

Seems like the only facts you accept is what your Dear Leader Abbott says

And there it is "Traitors", "Racists", "Xenophobes", etc., etc., etc. When the extreme side can't accept that others may not agree with them they turn to the only thing they have in defense and here we see it.

Biden has done nothing to disrupt fuel prices here. That's on OPEC and the banks that are not funding non-economic wells like they used to. You can't name one drilling project that Biden has halted.

And another favorite misdirection by the extremists "It's OPEC's fault", "It's the greedy energy companies fault", "It's Putin's fault", "It's dumb Americans fault for driving more after the lockdowns and going to work in their gasoline vehicles to make a living to pay their bills", etc., etc., etc.

As for your challenge go back and read my post and I don't believe anywhere I stated OBiden stopped a drilling project. Of course that doesn't matter since it doesn't fit the narrative.

Fuel in Mexico is cheaper than here because it is subsidized.

And what would that have to do with my statement/question asking why they didn't fill up before getting in line at the border??

I don't think gas prices here are particularly high in any case.

Tractors (Big Rigs, Trucks) use diesel typically and not "gas" (gasoline). I expect you don't look at the diesel pump and prices as you fill up your "gas" powered vehicle? Or do you drive a Tesla? In any case I just bought diesel at $4.90 a gallon and "gas" at $3.80 a gallon. Not sure about your area but that is down from the spike when Putin invaded Ukraine on 24 February and shook the futures market. Didn't OBiden stop importing Russian oil?? Even if he didn't Russia is still in Ukraine and gas prices are dropping. OPEC told OBiden to pound sand on more oil and instead he went to Venezuela and Iran for more oil. They still negotiating with those countries and low and behold the price has been dropping lately. You can use gasbuddy.com to see the historical price change.

Gee I thought the rise in fuel prices were a Putin Price Hike? Why then is it falling? And yes they are a lot higher than before OBiden took office!

The US was never energy independent.

You really do need to step out of the CNN & NPR bubble and sek other news sources.
