I agree with you on that. We should be working on helping latin American countries so their citizens don't feel the need to flee here for opportunity and to get away from crime.

Why can't those "citizens" fix the problems in their own countries, instead of taking the path of least resistance, and coming to the US?

Why cant Israel, Ukraine, and the rest of Europe fix their own problems? Why does America need to spend billions of dollars helping them?

If we are going to help anybody it should be the place that directly affects us… obviously

We should have occupied Mexico and run the cartels out and reformed Mexico, not Iraq.

Mexico's problems directly affect us was more than turmoil in Iraq or Afghanistan....think about it.

Occupying Mexico would be much like occupying Afghanistan, it would unite the Mexicans against the US, only to fall back into internecine conflict once we left.

The Republican hypocrisy on immigration - Dec. 2019

Among Florida Republicans, the song remains the same on immigration. Like his predecessor did for years, Gov. Ron DeSantis is once again calling for the Florida Legislature to require private businesses to use the E-Verify program to check the immigration status of new employees. Once again, Republican lawmakers are unlikely to do it because the state’s economy cannot function without the cheap labor of undocumented immigrants. The posturing reflects the Republicans’ hypocrisy on immigration, touting punitive approaches while quietly acknowledging the need for workers but refusing to embrace comprehensive reforms.

First, the E-Verify system is cumbersome to use and imperfect. Critics point out that undocumented immigrants have figured out ways to avoid detection through the use of forged documents, stolen Social Security numbers and other techniques. More importantly, large segments of the state’s economy depend on cheap labor supplied by undocumented immigrants. These are often the workers picking crops in the fields, cleaning hotel rooms, building apartment buildings and working in restaurants for little pay and under conditions few American citizens with better options would accept. Who would fill those jobs?

But E-Verify never really goes away. DeSantis has again made it a priority, raising the typical unsubstantiated claims that it would help reduce crime by undocumented immigrants. Senate President Bill Galvano, R-Bradenton, made clear this week that he opposes requiring E-Verify as an additional burden on private businesses. And dozens of Florida business leaders -- including executives from the cruise lines, the construction industry and health care companies -- have warned that "mandating a flawed and costly system will devastate our economy.'' Get ready to watch a familiar re-run of rhetoric when the Legislature convenes in January.
This is exactly why I don't pay this astroturf debate all that much attention. It's not going to change unless both parties want it to and neither does (for different reasons). Plus the harm has always been overstated for political reasons.

Most of the time ... the US broke their country
Same way that England and France complain about immigration after destroying 1/2 of the countries around the World

Make it better by offering some sort of incentive to the sharp shooters---perhaps a monetary bonus of some sort. We are at war here, and we need to use the same methods we would use in any other war. Too many people are afraid to speak up and say it, though.
If border security was a priority to DC politicians, we'd have 3 walls, 1 after the other. Then some concertina wire followed by ample mine fields and claymore booby traps.

No other country has birthright citizenship and I don't see why we should be the exception.
Almost every country in the continental Americas has birthright citizenship, including Mexico and all the central American countries. In South America, Colombia is the exception, and Chile has some restrictions. The USA is far from the exception. It is helpful to do a tiny bit of research before making broad based statements based on personal opinion instead of fact.
