I'm a student who wants to spend his vocation in the USA. I've first wanted to choose Riviera Beach, MD. But then somethings changed and I decided joiningm my friends travelling to Galveston, TX.
But u know I just wonder about the area, I looked for some rentals near Lockheed Street. I do wanna know about the area. Is it safe lace, and in general, how about Galveston Island? I'll probably be there late 25 june on summer. So I do wanna know is the area safe enough or crime riden on summers?
And one more thing, I wanna know, I'm a student and I'm just 20, so I do wanna work in the ISland while I'm travelling. Te main reason of my work is to improve my communication skills and English level, with the help of Native speakers. So, what kinda job is it suitable t work at as a student like me?

Thank u in advance to anyoe who help me and read the thread. PLz don't stop radng the thread just rwrite down any info about the area, coz any single think can be a great help for me....

You might be better off posting this in the Houston Forum as Galveston is close to there. Having said that, there are many restaurants and hotels in Galveston that you could probably look for work at where you would get plenty of interaction with folks.

I believe that in order for you to be able to work, you will need a temporary workers' visa. If you have not yet been looking into this, this link will get you started: Temporary Workers

I lived in Galveston for several years and my husband's family still lives there. I am not familiar with Lockheed Street, but don't know all of the smaller streets. Do you have the exact street address? If so, I can Mapquest it and get an idea of where it is, then can give an opinion...

Muhnay is quite right about the folks on the forums at galveston.com - very informative and friendly group of people.

My impression of Galveston is that a short distance (a few blocks, for example) can make a huge difference in terms of safety. So it can be very hard to get general advice about how safe a particular area might be.

But it is a beautiful place with a lot of historic beauty - and as long as you are young and single - it is not nearly as difficult as if you were trying to find a place to move with a family and children.

Good luck - and welcome to Texas - I hope it works out for you!

Galveston can be dangerous but as long as you are not being stupid you'll be fine. I've throwdley walked through many dangerous neighborhoods at night and have been fine. (although I wouldnt walk through the northern part of broadway around central middle school)
