Never really considered Bodacious a chain. Each store is independently operated and just a bit different. The sauce is the only thing that is duplicated.

Nonetheless, Bodacious on the Loop in Longview should be on that list somewhere. Carter's made honorable mention ... and has much to be desired.

Big Dave's on Hwy 259 north is my most recent favorite with an interesting combination of entree and side items.

My DH would agree with you 100%, Bartley's is one of his top 5 BBQ places.

Hard 8 is another top favorite, I thought I read it was somewhere on the Texas Monthly list also. They mentioned the original in Stephenville though and we've only been to the one in Coppell.

will try to remember that when we are craving some 'Q
but it is a little far--we tried that place in southlake a time or two off white chapel and the meat is ok--sauce is nothing special--but the restaurant is kind of not too clean

not too fond of N Main--more hype than flavor I think...

chain and BBQ just do not belong in the same phrase...

So glad to see San Antonio did not get any recognition. They deserve it--their BBQ sucks. Someone needs to open a good one here.

You mean you haven't been to Texas Pride yet, TexasNick?? It's way out east of town on 1604 and about 4 miles south of I-10. It looks like a cross between an old gas station and an antique store combined, but their smoked meats are wonderful. If you go to one place in SA, give that one a try. It's in the boonies, but well worth the drive.

The Railhead in Fort Worth is excellent. It's always crowded.

Default Two Different Ways

I need to go get that Texas Monthly as soon as I can. It'll make a great keepsake.

Then again, I can cheat and look at it online.

So has anyone eaten at that place in Lexington (only open on Saturdays) that made #1?

I'm 70 miles from Lexington so may have to give it a try some Saturday.

ate at Schoepf's Open Pit BBQ in Belton this past weekend. LOVE the vinegary tasty bbq sauce. great chopped beef and ribs. open pit area is not as "purty" as Hard Eight's in Stephenville, but the interior is very rustic, full of rodeo memorabilia.
may try Cyclone Corrall BBQ in the small town of Cyclone TX next weekend! (it's east of Temple, and only open in the summers-i think it's all you can eat, and with beer in big ole troughs full of ice...set in a pole barn, from what i have been told)...will report back
