For now, City Market in Luling (even that orange sauce is great) gets my 1st place vote but that could change any time. I have this old, worn Texas state map I keep and it's marked with notes mostly of BBQ "joint" locations. Whenever I head out to some part of the state that I've not previously visited I do an internet search and try to locate, and try, a few more new ones.

So many places and so little time.

If you want sort of an ironic urbane BBQ experience, try Sammy's BAR-B-Q Family Owned Dallas, Texas next to the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank downtown.

Randy White's BBQ in Frisco is pretty good eatin'!

I think they've got some great BBQ and sauce to boot!

Has anyone ordered Texas BBQ over the internet and sent it to starving expatriates in other states?

Yep, used to do that when my son was in Annapolis, Maryland, and then in D.C., and then NYC (where, evidently, just before he moved back home, an actual, honest to God, authentic Central Texas BBQ joint opened up - he tested it and said they got it absolutely right (except for the $30/plate prices), but they sent their pit boss to apprentice in Texas for a couple of years before they opened. Right down to the Big Red and Bluebell's Ice Cream, and they were looking at becoming the only Shiner distributor in NYC.

But until then, I established quite the reputation for myself among his friends by sending the occasional care package from Salt Lick or Cooper's.

I've been to the Lake location (2222) and it is very good and very scenic, but I have yet to go to the Hill location (2244). I'll have to squeeze that in on a future trip.

I got my copy in the mail two weeks ago already tried out one pretty close by me that we had never been to (big DUH!!!). Big Daddy's up in Lavon. We went over the Memorial Day weekend. Arrived around 5pm (well past the lunch crowd and for a Monday holiday a DEAD time for restaurants). The only people there when we arrived were the workers. By the time we went thru the line and sat down the line was almost to the door. As per what some of the Texas Monthly judges said, best time to try something to see how good it REALLY is would be in a slow time of day - LATE in the day. IT WAS GOOD!!! We will be back.

County Line - Chain and we were NOT impressed. Well, the VIEW was good on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard in Garland but the food was okay. Nothing special at all and sure not good enough to make us drive across town and pass other chain places to eat there.

Hard Eight also has a location in Coppell. Owned by the same people and supposed to be good. Hubby says it is almost up there w/ Coopers.

I'd only order online from Coopers in Llano or Salt Lick.

I can see how they picked the #1 the way they did even though they are only open 1 day a week. Guess if it is open to the public the hours don't matter. Gonna have to get down that way sometime to try it out.

Last week on the Food Network they were doing grill specials all week. I had to stop watching or else I feard my husband would be breaking into a BBQ joint after they were closed to get a fix from watching the show. This from reading the thing in Texas Monthly on one of the places that ranked where some guy got busted for breaking into the store at 4am to fix himself a BBQ sandwich. LOL!! Now THAT must be some REALLY GOOD BBQ!

I stumbled upon Big Daddy's on my way to visit my wife at work in Rockwall. It looks like a good bbq joint from the outside and we were glad we stopped in. My only disappointment is that now the lines may grow longer
