South Alamo now one of the poorest communities in America? (El Paso: income, zip code)

i thought that Cameron Park was the poorest but according to a new report South Alamo has passed Cameron Park by almost a $1000. the average income there is only $3,162 compared to $4,103 in Cameron Park. Just when i think a town couldnt be any poorer another town tops that record. the report is ver intriguing considering 97% of the town is white

98% Hispanic, almost all Mexican. Hispanic is not a race when it comes to the census. Instead of white, a more appropriate classification would be Native American or similar.

But that is the poorest part of Texas, and just a hair better than some parts of Native American reservations in South Dakota.

And as far as this line:

I would simply invite you to visit the Rio Grande Valley, so that you can understand and appreciate the dynamics that make that region what it is.

That is a poor town. But you should never trust Wikipedia as a source since it is known to give false info. I though the poorest community in Texas was part of El Paso but I think that was based on zip code rather then the city as a whole.

That is per capita income, not per family income. It is still bleak!

Wikipedia has a quirk in the system that I still don't understand. They make it confusing by making us believe that a large percentage of (fill in the blank) are white (or Anglo), but it's the numbers that follow that that tell you the whole story.

They take the numbers directly from the Census, which does not consider Hispanic as a race but, rather, as an ethnicity. Therefore, in heavily Hispanic areas, the percentage of "White" often includes those people of Hispanic ethnicity.

In reports that I have to make for the feds, I have to consider Hispanic as white and then separate it out as subgroup of white.

wow thats odd here Hispanics are their own entity( but of course we have almost no hispanics in my town) just like the Chinese, Germans, and Eastern Europeans.
when it comes to making reports to the Feds.
