Exit off expressway onto paso real (509) and head south for about a mile. There to your left is horseshoe lake. I bass fish there all the time. Friends of mine fish for gar and carp. Try it if you are in the san benito area. I hear that only boats with no motors are allowed.

any resaca (oxbow lake) or canal in the area will hold fish. i wouldn't eat them though.

but in all honesty... if you're in the valley... especially in the lower valley... just hit the saltwater.

read my previous response. also try texasflats.net it's mostly folks from the valley on there.

the resaca near the brownsville events center is going to be stocked with 2000lbs of catfish for a children's fishing event on may 21st, so as soon as the kids are gone you can take advantage!

Best fresh water fishing in the RGV (or close to it) is in Falcon Lake in Zapata.. Never mind all the media hype about the border violence. It appears that the fishing guides are all doing great business. It is supposed to be some of the best bass fishing in the country. It is about 90 miles NW of McAllen. Other than Falcon Lake there is no good fresh water fishing in the RGV IMO. Salt water fishing is the way to go.
