I couldn't say it any better than loves2read & JamesAbilene. You can see the way things were in the 1950s, and what the changes they were going to have in the future, with people dying or leaving and buildings closing. I have travelled in a lot of towns in West Texas small towns, and sometimes I feel like I am at the movie set.

I think filming it in black & white, with the cold wind blowing, and the great Hank Williams music helps set the mood too.

I have it in DVD, and I watch it a couple times a year at least.

It is amazing how well that movie captured the mood of that time. As I said before, it is honest! I am going to have to rent it and watch it again.

One can go to any number of West Texas towns and see what things were like in the 1950s, until the prices jerk you back to the present. They seem like time machines. I like them!

There was an interesting movie filmed in the 80's starring Kris Kristoffersen and Treat Williams about 2 Texas Border Patrolmen who discover JFK's actual assassin buried in the desert. I think it was called Thunderbolt. Pretty good movie but it was actually filmed in Arizona. Even put a San Antonio city limits sign on a highway with what is obviously Tucson in the background!

Hi everyone, a search for movies made in Texas brought me to this thread, and it also brought me to this:

http://governor.state.tx.us/files/pr...roductions.pdf

This is a complete list of movies/tv productions that were either entirely or partly filmed in Texas since 1910!! Very interesting!! Enjoy!

EDIT: Sorry I did not realize that links did not work here, just copy and paste the link in your browser! (without the of course!)

I vote for The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. No other movie brings out both the great disdain and great respect Texas has for its Mexican heritage. We are so quick to discount our border areas yet deep down we understand the importance they bring to our culture. It also deliniates our simbiotic relationship with Mexico and its culture. Texas wouldn't be the same without it. Furthermore, it brings together the two things Anglos and Mexicans have in common as Texans. And that is honor and loyalty.
