you can't buy hail insurance as a separate/secondary policy like flood insurace
any home may be the victim of a hail storm especially in some parts of TX and the DFW metroplex has more than its share--
some areas like where I grew up in Guadalupe co --back then at least--rarely had hail storms---but it was not excluded from home/car insurance
just as it is INCLUDED in all home/auto insurance coverage now with standard policy...

There are two 'schedules' (not sure if that is the right word) on most policies. One covers stuff like fire and theft, the other covers wind and hail damage (both cover other things, but it has been years since I looked very close). You will need both, but you can set different deductibles in most cases.

I loked at mind and your right but that is the same as the coverage that would take in tornadoes. I once had a friend in the insurance business and that is why he always said that they shoud first show you the coverages avilable and what they coist and let the homeowner decide waht risk they want to include. It's like flood insurnace ;many don't thnik it is necessary and then the very hundred years or more flood comes.

I would imagine it depends on the kind of roof you have. I know my Mothers home in Texas got hail damage on the roof but it was one of those three play metal roofs that looks like cedar shakes from a distance.

I have seen hail storms get pretty intense in Texas.

Also hail storms are such sudden threats that it's good to have it to cover window glass and toher thnigs. Often it is wind driven as usually comes with a big storm. Kind of like thgorwing baseballs at your house if that size.Once ran in to this at a UT game in austin;alot of car almost destroyed body wise.Vinyl and aluminum siding homes really took a hit from seeing TV news that time.
