Your resort areas are OK unless you get way off the beaten path.

Even I won't go there and I'm as adventurous as they come.
Reynosa aint that bad I was there about a week ago. Seemed the same as it always been since i was 7

The touristy areas are good. Although I hear if you go to Mexico City, beware of taking public taxis because they aren't all actual taxis. They are usually criminals and you could be kidnapped. But I believe you can talk to your hotel, or maybe the embassy and they will tell you which ones are legitimate.

As a gringo if anything bad happens, remember it's always your fault. The person with the money is the one who is blamed & goes to jail.

We have decided they could not go. Just too much going on. My mother in law and sister in law are going to go get pottery and leave the kids with my bil while they do that.

Someone was asking my kids ages, the are 6 and 12.

Thank you all for the information. I appreciate every bit of it!

How ironic, it's the other way around here in the states. The above statement could easily read: As a Mexican, if anything bad happens, remember it's always your fault. The person with the least money is the one who is blamed and goes to jail.

Right now, the pull to cross the border is to fill up your car with gas, as gas is regulated in Mexico and is much cheaper than here in the US: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/25/us...html?ref=world

How about we ask the sister-in-law of Congressman Silvestre Reyes? Would her experience count?

It's one of those things -- chances are if they went, nothing would happen but it's very unpredictable right now. They wouldn't likely be targetted but lately there are shootouts on busy streets in broad daylight.
