This is cute:

Martha Turner lists Houston’s most expensive home ever

I honestly assumed Houston would have had a listing over $43mil...especially with all those millionaires.

Houston is by far the wealthiest metro region in Texas. The stats back that up.

As far as the house, Dallas has always had more ridiculously ostentatious people that build things like that. And to update your nearly two year old link, that house is STILL on the market and has not commanded anywhere near the $135 million asking price. Anyone can ask for a price - whether or not that asking price is actually met is what actually determines the value.

Nobody on this forum can afford either house, but it is cute when people post things like this to act like it means anything substantive about either city. Rich people in Dallas are generally flashier than rich people in Houston. That's far from breaking news.

But nice try anyways.

The Memorial house is a more ornate house but it is only on a 2 1/2 acre lot as opposed to a 25 acre estate with a huge guest house as well. If there is a 25 acre estate in River Oaks that ever goes up for sale, I'm sure it's listing would rival that one in price...

There are many reasons somebody would want to sell a estate, it may mean they simply want to take a profit or they found someplace they like better or they are in some kind of financial distress like a divorce or something. Bottom line is having huge homes like this on the market may not be a particularly good sign!

This is all true, and regardless, that asking price is absurd and that's why the house is still on the market. The seller is delusional if he thinks he will get anywhere close to $135 million. That house will be lucky to sell for half of that amount.

I think you have it twisted.. You are the one that is ignoring all the facts presented of Houston being the richer city and basing an assumption on the asking price of one house..

That house in memorial is NICE!!
