Dallas is and has always been quality over quantity that's why dallas looks and presents better than houston. Dallas and Houston area goin down two totally different roads so with that said...we don't have to catch anything. If anything...Houston needs to catch on!!

You know Dallas will never catch up

Needing two cities to compete with one is NOT catching up.

The Alpha-global city status with its indicators. Houston has been progressing on many of the indicators while DFW doesn't even care about it; it only cares about being a nationally-important regional city over being a globally reputable economic powerhouse.

The difference between DFW and Houston: Houston's endless ranting about being a "world-class city" really meant Alpha-global city status by excelling not just in commerce, but the arts as well, and DFW's concentration on being a regional hub by attracting head offices of Fortune 500 (U.S. based/operations) companies and dominating the transportation network (road, rail, air) of the region.

Exactly. Dallas think building fancy towers and faux arts districts is what's going to put it on a world-class level. All of these things are suppose to be organic and come naturally. Houston's skyline was built off power and business; not just to look pretty. Whenever Houston does anything big; there's some significance to it.

Yea sure and Houston was still rated below Atlanta and Dallas in the world rankings.

Houston is bigger and badder than Dallas, but outside of forums like this one, the rest of the country doesn't notice or care for it much. All I've heard living on both coasts coming out of Texas is Dallas this and Dallas that.

When a tree falls in the Houston forest, it doesn't make a sound because no one gives a damn.

The average joe does not pay attention to a city's world class status. People take in cities at face value.and experience while visiting. That's the reason Dallas builds fancy buildings and REAL arts districts. Those things are what make a city interesting. So say wat you will. Dallas will continue to over-build,over-design and over-promote itself while houston sits back and build these big ,dull,thrown-up buildings by demand. To me that's the disadvantage of having a high demand. Houston has grown used to not having to actually design and build quality interesting buildings because they know that anything that they throw together would get leased. That's why they always throw up quick, boring shoe boxes everywhere. To keep up with demand.
