The thing I like about UH is that it's an archive of the modern styles of the period. The 1920's residence halls (Quadrangle) are built in the Spanish style rather than the traditional Romanesque. The 1930's-1940's buildings are in the Art Deco style rather than Neo-Gothic.

But it's renowned in that the majority of the buildings (1960's-1970's) are in the Brutalist style, my personal favorite. They channel the neoclassical style but reinterpret it in a contemporary way. If these are renovated to its original appearance like restoring the mid-century modern furniture, they would undoubtedly be the grooviest buildings of all Texas universities (and best collection of Brutalist architecture in all of Texas).

Masonry Magazine gave the Humanities Building at Rice a1st place International Excellence in Masonry award in 2002.

Rice and SSMU are two of my favorite campuses in Texas.
