from that very article it doesnt sound too reassuring that the lakes will ever get bigger.

"What the city can afford to build now are two 20-acre ponds — starter kits less than a fifth the size of Bachman Lake. Funding to expand those small lakes into something more significant isn’t there. Even if it were, engineering problems that were only recently disclosed could prevent the city from ever building the lakes that residents thought they would get.
Something is better than nothing when it comes to recreation along the Trinity River, and there is an opportunity to expand the lakes in the future.
It’s hard to understand how, so many years after the lakes were planned, the city is discovering now that it can’t excavate around the piers of the older bridges that the proposed 90-acre Urban Lake was intended to run beneath. The possibility that, at some point in the distant and unfunded future, the Urban Lake will be divided into smaller ponds linked by concrete channels or underground pipes doesn’t sound promising."

"When the little lakes are completed, Dallas residents will probably enjoy them. But there’s a significant difference between the city’s promise and what it’s delivered"
So what exactly are you sayin? You are trying to make it seem like NOTHING is happening. Yes two 20 acre starter lakes. Thats bigger than whats down there now...Those "ponds" will come with other amenities which are not down there now.....thats all thats important.

i know. its great something is finally happening there (thats not a tollway), but its nothing like what was originally proposed to the city back in '98 and Dallasites should be P/Oed that money was wasted and they were lied to.

Yeah, Knowing Dallas, Dallas will find a way to grab out of another entity's pension fund to make sure this gets built as originally planned.

Just curious whats the point of this thread? I've been through the old post and its the same thing being recycled. Do we expect anyone from either city to say the other is better?

Both Sides (to some degree) have accepted that the opposing city is better at some things. Us discussing it for hundreds of pages is only what has to happen to keep it updated as things change in both cities.
Its how we stay current on the best two cities in Texas and making it interesting by going tit-for-tat page after page after page.....The rivalry will never end because both cities are always changin.

Just my viewpoint. ......not everybody's

Hey 2 20 acre lakes is plenty or room for 2 downtown Houston office buildings and the parking lots and pointless 'greenspace' that surrounds them.
