Do I just peel off the old one and put the new one on in its place? Is there anything else I need to do?

So do I pull the old one off and put the new one o, or is there more to it? Do I have to keep the rest of the sticker? They got mad at me when I went to get a driver's license because I had thrown the rest of the old sticker away after I peeled it off last time.

It's your car registration--that's independent of your driver's license. You remove the old sticker & put the new one in its place.

Your old inspection sticker should have been removed by the inspector. Your old registration sticker is replaced by the new one. Just pull off the old one, clean any residue, and put the new sticker at the bottom. If your inspection sticker had been at the bottom corner, put the new sticker where it was.

Yes, and keep the receipt that comes with the sticker in your car. As hellpaso said, it is your car registration even though it doesn't really say AUTO REGISTRATION across the top. It is what the cops will want to see along with your proof of insurance if you ever get pulled over.

Some states put the renewal stickers on the license plate. Some put it on the windshield. Texas is a windshield state.

They wanted to see the rest of the sticker it came on, I had to go somewhere else and get a receipt showing I'd paid the taxes or something before they'd give me a license.

As many times I have been pulled over in texas I have never been asked for registration papers. The sticker on the window is the registration. I never keep my old strickers.

In Texas, you are NOT required to carry your registration (the sticker is sufficient). Not true in NM, btw, as I found out many years ago :/.
